July 13, 200817 yr HANLEY RAMIREZ IS A OK! Link LOS ANGELES -- Hanley Ramirez, the Marlins All-Star shortstop, exited Saturday night's game against the Dodgers in the second inning with a sore right shoulder. After treating the shoulder with ice during the course of the Marlins' 5-3 win in 11 innings, Ramirez said, "I'm fine." The 24-year-old shortstop, who is set to make his first All-Star appearance on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, insisted that he will be ready to play in the series finale with the Dodgers on Sunday afternoon. Voted in by the fans as the National League's starting shortstop, Ramirez had two at-bats in two innings. He struck out to lead off the game, and in the second inning, he grounded to shortstop for the final out of the inning. Ramirez said he felt discomfort during a wild throw in the first inning on Nomar Garciaparra's slow grounder to short. While Ramirez threw the ball away, Garciaparra was credited with a hit. During his second at-bat, Ramirez seemed to favor his shoulder after swinging and missing an 86-mph slider by Hiroki Kuroda. Two pitches later, he grounded out to shortstop. Ramirez didn't come out to the field for the bottom half of the second inning. He was replaced by Alfredo Amezaga. After the 2007 season, Ramirez had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder to repair a partial labrum tear. Of late, the 24-year-old has been icing his right shoulder. Ramirez is batting .311 with 23 home runs and 45 RBIs.
July 13, 200817 yr Have to wonder if off season surgery will be planned for this shoulder. I can't remember him doing anything to hurt it and yet he has been icing it. He should be fine for the remainder of the year. Maybe cut back some more on his steal attempts.
July 13, 200817 yr He hurt it during a Mets game if I remember correctly. Santana pulled his strings and he swung the bat so hard he nearly pulled his arms off.
July 13, 200817 yr Lots of postion players do ice theri arms after games. Jeter is one who comes to mind and ive seen lost of other guys do it to. But man what a blow if he were to go down. Whew.
July 13, 200817 yr Excellent, I was worried we'd finally have an all-star starter and he wouldn't be able to play.
July 13, 200817 yr Excellent, I was worried we'd finally have an all-star starter and he wouldn't be able to play. He deserves to start in the ASG and thats the first thing I thought upon the injury, thank god he will play....
July 13, 200817 yr hopefully its just sore and there are no tears or anything like that. Hanley is a big boy... I'm sure he didn't cry. OH...you meant the other kind of tear.
July 13, 200817 yr According to the Miami Herald blog Hanley will not be in the lineup for today's game. LINK
July 13, 200817 yr According to the Miami Herald blog Hanley will not be in the lineup for today's game. LINK I can live with that, give the kid a chance to rest the shoulder. we have a long 2nd half of the season We need him as healthy as possible
July 13, 200817 yr I like most of you are not upset about Hanley not playing. It is better to rest him than to let him play and risk further injury.

July 13, 200817 yr Yep, Amezaga is more than fine at SS. We'll give up some offense but get plus defense.
