Post Game 8/2

We can hate on Fredi, but Gregg did something Ricky couldn't. Thats get Holliday out.

Would have been nice to see a CG, but moving up in the standings is a whole lot sweeter. And even better was the way the Mets fell today, priceless. LoL

Freddi does not give a sh*t about a CG-less streak. His job is to make sure we get the win and he made the right move tonight. You want to keep your pitchers arm fresh for the rest of the 2nd half and Holliday was due up and had already killed Nolasco twice.

Some of you calling him names and saying it was a horrible decision need to grow up. This is not MLB 2K8 here.

I agree, but it would have been nice to break the streak. What Fredi could have done was leave Nolasco in, and if he gave up a couple of hits, then he should have taken him out.

I'm a little surprised folks are defending Fredi pulling Nolasco. When going to the bullpen there is always a risk that the guy you're calling on just won't be on his game. I think we've all seen that happen with Gregg too many times for comfort.

I guess the main question is, all things considered, who do you feel more comfortable getting three outs in the ninth - Gregg or Nolasco. For me it was a no-brainer for Nolasco. If the first batter gets on, then I understand going to Gregg. But the way Nolasco was pitching...you just don't take him out and risk Gregg not being on his game. Even Tommy Hutton couldn't hold back his disagreement with the move.

Because he was about to face the MEAT of the order for the fourth time and Holliday had already hit 2 HR's off him. Plus Gregg is always better when he starts an inning.

First message in a week, was on a vacation in Orlando. anyway, great game by nolasco, and i see willingham is heating up.

I personally would have perfered Ricky being out there for the 9th because of how he was rolling, but dj is right, can't say Fredi didn't have justification. Holliday was 3-3 in the game with 2 HRs. Plus it was the 4th time through the meat of the order. The more times a pitcher and hitter face each other in a game: advantage=hitter.

Just like people unfairly get on a manager for making a bad decision when he makes the right baseball move but it fails, I think you guys are unfairly defending Fredi because he made the wrong baseball move but it worked out.

We won, its all good, but theres nothing wrong with calling out Fredi for making a bad call. I'll defend him when he does the right thing and it backfires, but I also have no problem criticizing when he does the wrong thing and it works anyhow.

I think it's pretty clear that Holliday was 3-3 because he's on an absolute tear- not because he was particularly hitting Nolasco hard. Nolasco had his way with everybody else in the Rockies' lineup. It's hard to criticize a move when it worked, but I think this was a flat-out bad moved that ended up working.

Lets put it this way...

If Fredi leaves Nolasco out there, and he proceeds to give up a run or 2, it's Fredi's fault for not bringing in Gregg, and it's Fredi's fault (just like when people blamed Girardi for making his SP's throw too many pitchers).

Seems like a manager can never win in that situation, with some fans.

Bottom line is we got the W.

Team achievement > Individual achievement.

eh...I don't think anyone is saying Nolasco should have been left in just for the saking of notching a CG. He should have been left in because, at that point in time, you had to assume that he gave us our best chance to win the game.

Who could blame Fredi for letting Nolasco pitch the 9th when he was plowing through the Rockies lineup with ease? I mean, as dominant as Nolasco was, it just made no sense to go to Gregg. Say what you will, but it was a flat out mistake. And it's one that Fredi makes more often than not.

DOMINANCE! Ricky made the Rox look foolish! Incredible stuff.

Oh, and I'm fine with the move Fredi made for one reason...

Holliday OWNS Ricky, .750/.750/1.750 in 8 AB.

And it's a moot point, since Gregg looked awesome anyways.

If Fredi leaves him in and we lose, I defend Fredi in the postgame thread, for making the right call even without the best results.

I don't play the results when I criticize a manager.

Dunno if they showed it on TV, but the best part of the game was the "Thriller" dance routine, featuring the Manatees and Mermaids in zombie gear.

You probably don't, but I'm sure half the people criticizing would.

No doubt a lot would, I'm just defending my position, and why I am still criticizing him now. I think if you're going to defend a manager when he makes the right move and it blows up in his face, you should be allowed to criticize him when its vice versa.

Just like there are fans that will jump on him even when he makes a smart move, there are those that will fellate him just because a dumb move worked.

If Fredi left him in and we lost, I would be giving him crap for leaving in a starter for the last inning only for the reason of getting a complete game and not paying attention to the fact that the 2nd hitter owns him.

IBB :p

EDIT: Also pitch count was only at 93, and Ricky has been a horse, no way you can say the only reason was for a CG.

yeah man here we we see more proof of fredi's mancrushes on his pitchers. Leave ricky out there!!!! he was mowing the rockies down AND he stilll had more left in the tank, come on fredi you know better than that. BUT im glad that gregg didnt f*** sh*t up lol good job overall, GO FISH!!

Leave him out there against Holliday who hits him at a .750 clip and had already homered twice and the rest of the heart of the Colorado order, Brad Hawpe, who has hit safely in 6 of his last 10 games and Garrett Atkins who has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games? Nah.

The 2nd guy coming up in the inning just happens to destroy Ricky Nolasco for fun. He sits at home and thinks of new ways to destroy Ricky. He named his Dog "Barky Nolasdog" and kicks it for fun.

I don't think it would have been the right move.

IBB. Its an option. By the way, Holliday rakes off Gregg too, and this is the same Rockies team he blew 2 saves against in Colorado. Second guessing works both ways.

But either way its all gravy now.

i ted ricky to be in to but if ricky gave up 2 runs i would be arguing about how fredi didn't switch him....and if gregg blew the save i would be like why did fredi bring in gregg! but everything turned out great and me and the fam won free pizza thanks to ricky lol
