August 5, 200817 yr Olsen, Nolasco, and JJ. Like someone already said, Olsen doesn't get the respect he deserves on here.
August 5, 200817 yr Author I've liked Scott since he was a rookie, I'm just curious if maybe he could do what Dontrelle did for us in the 2003 playoffs. Then again, that was mostly Dontrelle's fault for struggling as a starter. Right now there's no doubt Ricky and Scott are our best 2 pitchers, I just hope that J.J, Volstad or Anibal will step up enough to grab that #1 role. I'd feel like we have a shot with Ricky and Scott, but I'd prefer to feel confident with someone else who really looks to be dominating, and I think the other 3 have the stuff to do that. If we just went with who was the most consistent starting pitchers in the 2003 season, we'd have sent Redman, Willis or Penny to the mound in game 1, but instead we took the hot hand who stepped it up after injury problems earlier on, in Beckett.
August 5, 200817 yr Unlike Scotty, who's been rather lucky this year considering his BABIP and BB/K, Nolasco's past 10 games have been completely dominated and shows no sign of regression. Ricky is the undisputed ace, as of now.
August 5, 200817 yr Im going with nolakso, olsen,jj. JJ has the best stuff on the team imo. Sanchez or volstad as a 4th. I really like volstad he has a pitch to get out of truble and get a dp wit that sinker and he doesnt give up the homers which help alot even when u walks guy's.
August 5, 200817 yr By the time October rolls around we will know who of the "fab four" deserve to be the "fab three".
August 5, 200817 yr Alot of people fail to realize that Scott's record may not exactly show how well he has actually pitched for the Marlins. The Marlins have blown at least four wins for him via the bullpen or lack of runs, I will name two off the top of my head because I was at one. 1. Cody's Walk Off HR. - Kensing (BS) Although he has been much better since that. 2. Sunday

May 28 @ Mets (Kevin Gregg blown save) June 24 vs Rays (Pinto blown hold) July 4 @ Rockies (We all know what happened) and Yesterday. You are close with the Cody game, but slightly wrong. He left after the top of the 6th and we didn't gain the lead until the bottom of the 7th, so he wasn't actually in line for the win, Pinto was after pitching the 7th.

Well at least I got the four times right. :confused
August 5, 200817 yr Nolasco and Johnson imo are shoeins, Olsen and Sanchez will have to battle out for that 3rd spot until the end of the season. However, we might see a 4 man rotation in the playoffs considering these guys are all young and dont have any postseason experience.
August 5, 200817 yr July 4 @ Rockies (We all know what happened) He pitched like caca that game. I think the main stat is that Scott has 11 no decisions. In those 11 no decisions, he has a 4.14 ERA (including the Colorado game). Take the Colorado game out, and Olsen has 10 no decisions, with an ERA of 3.32. So yeah...his record is deceiving.
August 5, 200817 yr I think it will be the new guys, JJ/Anibal/Volstad. Nolasco and Olsen seem too inconsistent for me. Olsen has given up more than 4 runs a total of 3 times all season. Is that really inconsistent? And Ricky is leading the pitching staff.
August 5, 200817 yr Ricky JJ Anibal I wish one of those were a lefty but they will be our top 3 starting pitchers if we make the playoffs, Anibal pitched superb while in the playoff hunt in 2006, JJ has not skipped a beat since returning; Ricky is my big question mark, he can really implode come October but i am hoping that he continues his regular season dominance
August 5, 200817 yr I don't know why people are so nervous about Ricky. If you have watched him the last 3 months he has been absolutely lights out.
August 5, 200817 yr I don't know why people are so nervous about Ricky. If you have watched him the last 3 months he has been absolutely lights out. i know, but Ricky could just be another Mitre, a 1 season wonder, there are a lot of those around the league, i hope i am wrong, but the way Ricky pitches he can implode at any time

Not sure what you mean by that...he has very good stuff. Btw, in his last 11 starts, Nolasco has: -2.94 ERA -9/11 quality starts (82%...and one of his "non-quality starts" was a 7 IP, 4 ER performance, which is solid) -averaging approximately 7 innings per start -has 77 K's / 9 BB's. Lets put it this way...if Nolasco was on some other team right now, he'd be getting some amazing publicity. Those #'s aren't just good...they are amazing. And lets realize that Nolasco had an injury...he's comeback, and he hasn't yet reached his prime, at the age of 25. I'm not ready to call him an ace just yet; but he's certainly developing into one.

August 5, 200817 yr Ricky-- fasho! Ollie because he's been pretty solid all year, plus he's the only lefty starter now JJ/Anibal??? Only time will tell.... However, I think it's too soon to speculate about the postseason, especially because we've only seen a handful of starts from JJ and Volstad and only one from Anibal. Volstad's really friggin young, but he's basically the same age as D-Train and Beckett in 2003. I'd wait another month or so to see how JJ, Anibal and Volstad do with some more starts.

I know, but i just don't know what got into him this year, he has been around for a little bit and has never pitched like this before, i am just hoping that this isn't a fluke; ex: Gil Meche

But what a nice dillema to have...too many quality SPs to choose from for the playoffs!

The way Ricky is obtaining the results, he's inline to be able to continue his success. ` Yeah just watching Ricky, it looks like success that he can duplicate, as long as he maintains that control. Its not like he has bad stuff, just nothing thats overpowering. But if you can locate a 90+ fastball where you want it, and also put your curveball where you want it, you're going to be damn hard to hit, and thats what Ricky has done. Scott worries me more, his stuff is bordering on the point where even with good control, which he's had, it still may not be enough. His fastball barely touches 90 anymore, and unlike some other crafty lefties, his changeup is pretty mediocre, and his slider hasn't looked so hot this year either. If I were to rank the guys on our staff in terms of stuff, it'd probably go Johnson/Volstad, Nolasco, Sanchez, Olsen. But its all about control, and who's got it going into the playoffs.
