August 5, 200817 yr Something to ponder. As of right now, its probably Ricky/Olsen/J.J., Volstad is still just a rookie and Anibal only just made his first start back with the ballclub. In 2 months from now, I'm predicting it'll be J.J./Ricky/Volstad or Anibal, with Scott used as either a fourth starter or lefty specialist out of the bullpen.
August 5, 200817 yr I think it will be the new guys, JJ/Anibal/Volstad. Nolasco and Olsen seem too inconsistent for me.

Could be, I dunno though, Rabbethan had a nice stat about Scott having the most quality starts on the ballclub, and Ricky hasn't seemed THAT inconsistent to me. I really like the idea of Olsen as a lefty specialist for the playoffs though, he's been dominating lefties this year.

August 5, 200817 yr it would be JJ, Anibal, and Nolasco. although i wouldn't be surprised if gonzalez used a 4 man rotation like the indians did with CC, Fausto, Westbrook, and Byrd.

August 5, 200817 yr ricky jj anibal....ricky is the ace no question Ricky, JJ, Olsen As much as I would like Sanchez to take Olsen's spot I don't think it would happen because Olsen has given us the most chances to win
August 5, 200817 yr You know...Scott Olsen doesn't exactly have GREAT stuff. As a matter of fact, his stuff is the WORST in the rotation. However, I think it's messed up how he gets disrespected so often, around here. Just look at some stats this year, and you'd see that Scott Olsen has been just as good, if not better, in many categories as Nolasco. (who many praise as the "ace") It's been a good sample size too. So I'd have a tough time saying that Olsen wouldn't at least be the #3 heading into the playoffs (if we actually get there).

I have faith in this team like in 03
August 5, 200817 yr Olsen, Nolasco, and JJ. I know many of you dont think olsen as an ace, and he probably isnt because he doesn't have ace stuff. But i think if we make it to the playoffs, something about olsen tells me he is gonna dominate. I dont know what it is, maybe its his passion about the game, but i think in the playoffs he is gonna own everyone.
August 5, 200817 yr I think we'll definitely see Olsen in the post-season rotation. I don't think a sensible person would throw out 3 righties. You wanna keep the opposition off balance, not letting them get into a rhythm. It doesn't mean that Olsen is one of our 3 best pitchers, though; that's not what I'm saying.

I really like the idea of Olsen as a lefty specialist for the playoffs though, he's been dominating lefties this year. That's actually not true anymore. Both him and Nolasco have 13. But he has been our most consistent starter. To leave him out of the top 3 is ridiculous. Even with that huge game in Colorado where he got rocked, his ERA has dropped back down. He has a better ERA than Nolasco, and while Noly has been more dominant, Olsen has been more solid. So I would go with Nolasco, Olsen, and JJ/Volstad/Sanchez. Those last 3 all have higher WHIP than the top two, so it would be between them for the 3rd spot.

August 5, 200817 yr Hendrickson/De la Cruz/Jorge Julio :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy damn why didnt i think of that. You are a genius
August 5, 200817 yr Author Anyway, why top 3 and not 4, since the rotation will be 4 man in all likelyhood. I just put top 3 because we dunno for sure if it will be 4, and only top 3 can have more than 1 start in a series. But yeah, you can put your top 4 if you want also. I wish more managers would use 3 man rotations in the playoffs, but knowing Fredi thats probably unlikely.
August 5, 200817 yr Olsen looks like he might be learning how to pitch, rather than just throwing the ball like he used to. I have no doubt Olsen did not just lose the great stuff that he used to have, but rather he is choosing to pitch differently because the early results from his other methods were not so great. Olsen's only weakness is the home run ball (he's given up too many of these) and of course lack of run support.

But as long as they can keep people off the bases, we should be fine.
August 5, 200817 yr Nolasco Olsen (We need a lefty starting potentially 2 games IMO) Johnson Sanchez a close 4th.
