August 5, 200818 yr i don't know if someone already posted this but apparently the tigers wanted lindstrom from the marlins for ivan rodriguez. when the marlins passed on that the tigers went and traded rodriguez to the yankees for farnsworth. rodriguez is a free agent after this season, do you think that the marlins would sign him to a contract to mentor our young pitching staff for a year or two. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/08/odds-and-ends-l.html
August 5, 200818 yr I love lindstrom casue of his 100 mph fastball and i think that clouds my judgemnt of himm as a pitcher i know he doesnt have the greastes numbers. But i think he has tons of potential and could be a close like lidge if he could get his slider down or another pitch. IDK about pudge hes getting older but i mena if we clould get him for a decent price then sure.
August 5, 200818 yr The thing is the marlins werent in a position to trade relief pitching. Thats an area we were looking to improve, not subtract from.
August 5, 200818 yr Im kind of in the middle of this one. Yea Lindstrom is young with some means of closer potential but if thats what it takes to get one of the better catchers in the league i might have pulled the trigger. Yes Pudge is old and all that but catcher is just as big a hole as our relief pitching is. Its a tough decision but in the end i think i wouldve went with pudge.
August 5, 200818 yr I feel Lindstrom is our future closer wit the kind of stuff he has, i love Pudge but would not have been willing to part with him, I would've given up either Joe Nelson or Logan Kensing
August 5, 200818 yr I'd have done that in a heartbeat! Too bad we can't afford to trade away bullpen arms.
August 5, 200818 yr I'd pull the trigger. Lindstrom is (probably) arbi-eligible, and I don't see us giving him the $2MM it will take to re-sign.

August 5, 200818 yr I wouldn't of given up Lindstrom for a rental of a catcher past his prime. Yes, I saw he's hitting .295. I don't want to lose a prospect that some of you have said is our future closer. If we trade him, we upgrade in one slot, degrade in another, lose a prospect, lose the "upgrade" after half a season. That's too much. If Farnsworth was on our team, sure I'd trade him. But not Lindstrom.
August 5, 200818 yr We have Miller, Pinto, Rhode, Nelson in our bullpen for depth. We won't downgrade in there as much as we upgrade by having Rodriguez taking the spot of a catcher name Hoover. :/

Waechter, who has been struggling lately and a AAAA player in Tankersley.
August 5, 200818 yr If the Tigers would have given us Pudge for Lindstrom....then I would be upset that we passed on that
August 5, 200818 yr If the Tigers would have given us Pudge for Lindstrom....then I would be upset that we passed on that Why would we get rid of a position of need player and fill another void? that's like a push trade, we needed bullpen, so why would we get rid of a bullpen arm with a future? that would've been stupid, if it was Mike Jacobs for Pudge, then i say yes because we have people to replace him

So the front of our pen is Miller, Pinto, Rhodes and Joe Nelson and you're saying we don't need help?
August 5, 200818 yr Miller has been horrible this year, and he's rarely being used in key roles anymore, so exclude him. And Pudge is an aging catcher, who's already lost his power...who's also a FA after the year. Lindstrom's got good stuff...I would not be surprised if he becomes a closer one day.
August 5, 200818 yr Back of the pen doesn't matter that much. You're kidding, right? Games are often decided b/c of middle relief. Especially with the Marlins, who are always playing close games.

August 5, 200818 yr Author i'm not happy with our bullpen as it is so i wouldn't have traded lindstrom for rodriguez to make an even bigger hole in the bullpen. if the tigers would have taken tankersley i would have done that deal in a heartbeat. i really don't like tankersley and if the padres would take him for a bullpen arm like cla meredith i'd do that too.

Do you really expect Loria to get into a bidding war, for any player?
