August 13, 200818 yr Author Does anybody know who the Marlins' captain is ? :mis2 The Marlins aren't a hockey team. So no, I don't. I am just curious. I have never heard that the team has a captain, neither. But actually the Yankees and Red Sox both have captains, and they are not hockey teams.

Bandwagon crap follows teams that win a lot. :barf

August 13, 200818 yr Hanley seems to have taken up that role. Every time there is a visit to the mound he is always up there. And he occasionally talks to the pitcher alone without Baker or Treanor going out there. So I'd give it to Hanley.

August 13, 200818 yr it was jacobs for the first 3 weeks of the year, and then he realized that hes mike jacobs. But i think it has to be either Hanley, gonzo, or Uggla. maybe even cantu.

August 13, 200818 yr the catain has to some 1 wit 5 + yesars expirience on the team and a veteran sio basically we dont have 1 but we have plenty of stand up guys and a few vest that help the youngsters
August 13, 200818 yr The Marlins don't have a "captain." The only teams that I'm aware of that have one are the Red Sox (Varitek) and the Yankees (Jeter.) Which is probably more due to tradition than anything else. It's optional. Ownership decision. Same as the decision to have/not have a mascot or hot cheerleaders or obese man-fans.
August 13, 200818 yr Theres way too many leaders on this young team to name a captain, its just not worth it. That said, you could look at a whole list of guys who have taken the captain role all year...Hanley and Uggla are obvious, Cantu is pretty outspoken, Jake spoke up quite a bit when we were surprising everyone to start the year, Kevin Gregg showed a lot of leadership the past two days, Gonzo is obvious, Wes Helms is in the same role as Gonzo but less obvious, and some could argue that Alfredo has a very important role in the clubhouse though its probably in a more tongue-in-cheek entertaining fashion... And lastly, I gotta believe a captain would have to be a little more longer tenured player, which the Marlins really dont have...case in point? Jeff Conine or Mike Lowell would be perfect captains if they were still on this ballclub. But bottom line, captains are optional in baseball and the Marlins really dont fit as the kind of team to even have a captain... Thats that

Captain for both those teams are just a figure head type thing, it is appreciation for what they have done for both teams. Varitek was the first captain for the Red Sox since the 1940's.

Paul Konerko is captain of the White Sox but doesn't wear the "C". http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb

If i were to choose the captain for the marlins i would go with Gonzo. Veteran leader thats knows how the game is played.
August 13, 200818 yr I don't know why some of you are making jokes about this, Mike Lowell was our Team Captain a couple years back.

August 13, 200818 yr hanley would be best suited to the role as he is the one player that is guaranteed to be with the club for the longest with his contract
