dim
I could see Piniella get it this, although Piniella was given a WS caliber team to begin the season, and was given the addition of Rich Harden halfway through to work with. I see Pinella getting it, but I believe Manuel really deserves it, just because he had a very similar team to what the Marlins had, a mostly terrible pitching staff all season with one ace with a lineup that is bad in situational hitting and relys on the home run ball and used that all the way to the World Series. Manuel built a rotation and lineup that would be able to mesh together and maintain production all the way up to what is now the WS.

Mungo
I could see Piniella get it Not after that collapse in the NLDS :banghead Don't you see what this is really saying ? That the managers don't believe in our players very much. They think that Freddi made chicken salad out of chicken isht.

You have such a unique way of reading between the lines and then twisting the truth in order to find the worst case scenario. I think you :banghead far too often. It has caused irrepairable damage. Eddie Altamonte
The team in 2 out of 3 seasons had 2 MOY winners...The season in between our starters were overcome by injury...Can we give the Award directly to Beinfest who maybe the one who really deserves it? BroncoBob27
The team in 2 out of 3 seasons had 2 MOY winners...The season in between our starters were overcome by injury...Can we give the Award directly to Beinfest who maybe the one who really deserves it? Nope. But honorable mention. And actually, honorable mention should go to the entire orginazation on this award. Because it is a culmination of the entire org that helps make Fredi look good. Here's some reasons why. Beinfest didn't want Girardi. He wanted Fredi all along. It was Loria's decision to hire The Arm Destroyer. Good news is that apparently he learned to listen to his people and let them do their jobs. A pretty big plus for our owner. I don't know who's idea it was to keep Kranitz for that extra season, but I have to think it was the FO. One of the best moves we made last year was to bring the Coyote back, although I would have been just as happy had we used Rosey in that role. If he even wants that type of full time job. From what little I have been able to talk to Rosey he seems very happy being a "roving" type of guy. And it's working for us. We have a very good ML caliber pitching coach wandering our pitcher stocked minor league system doing some polishing and when they are brought up another very good pitching coach doing the final touches. That is an aspect of our system that no one ever talks about. Probably most folks don't even realize it. I also don't think our minor league coaches get enough kudos for the jobs they do. They have been polishing, sending reports, and recommending who gets brought up. 2 for instances. During ST every year I have watched Baker, he couldn't play defense and couldn't hit crap. At least now he can hit. Maybin looks like a totally different player. From the way he tracks balls in the OF to his batting stance. That's what good coaching in the minors can do. marlinsmichael
Ya, what a great job Pinella did with a team of nothing but stars and a gm who would go out and get him a top starter at the deadline. A drunk pirate could have managed the Cubs to the point that Pinella did.
marlinsmichael
Manager of the year is a bad award. I just think there is no set in stone qualifications. Is it the guy who did the most with nothing? Or the guy who got the full potential out of a team of stars? It is more of just a matter of where the journalists are located and who they get a chance to see more IMO.
BroncoBob27
Again, the voting is done before the playoffs (and with good reason) The BBWA is done before the post season starts. I'm not really sure how this one is done. And not to take anything away from Fredi, but TSN's accuracy took a hit IMO when they named Hanley to their NL All Star Team. No way was he the best SS in the NL this year.

fanfish
Nice to see all you Fredi batches eat your words or try to BS your way through a totally absurd explanation of your opinions. Fredi deserved to be recognized and now that he has, maybe all you self proclaimed experts may finally accept the opinion of the real experts....the managers. No way was he the best SS in the NL this year. What the hell? Hanley was 3rd in average, 1st in OBP, 1st in SLG, 1st in OPS (by more than .100), 3rd in SB, 1st in runs, 1st in HR, 1st in walks HANLEY WAS SECOND IN ALL OF BASEBALL IN VORP AT 80.7 (only behind Pujols). Reyes' vorp was 62.9 (second best ss in the nl). And Hanley's defense improved 10 fold. Man, I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue. I hate to jump on the bandwagon here Bob, but that is a whole lot of wrong. The amount of wrong is ridiculously high. The most true thing in that entire statement is that Hanley was named to their team and is a shortstop. The rest is almost so wrong that I had to convince myself that it was written in another language that I obviously don't understand.
