Marlins interested in Chad Cordero

Featured Replies

Count the Marlins in as being one of the many teams interested in closer Chad Cordero.

Cordero, who made just six appearances in 2008 after arm injuries cut his season short, has been throwing off flat surfaces and is expected to begin throwing off the mound in mid-February. His agent, Admin Reynolds, said the Marlins are one of about a dozen teams interested in his client.

But, since he hasn't shown what he can do on the mound yet, no offers have been made.

"I think [the Marlins] are interested in watching him," Reynolds said. "A lot of teams have shown interest. But when it's time to make an offer, that's yet to be seen."

He's one of those guys that you watch and see what he can do. However, if he is remotely his old self, he's out of our price range.

He can't prove he's his "old self" until mid-Feb... By then, almost every team has their rosters set. We, fortunately, will still more than likely have a spot open. And he should be completely affordable coming off an injury like this.

Shoulder surgery always scares me. If he can some what be his old self he be a great addition.

I like this guys, if he is healthy and comes at a reasonable price, he could be a great addition.

I'm trying not too get too enthused when these stories come up. I try to remind myself, "These are the Marlins. This team will not break its bank."

I also try to tell myself that Cordero is the type of player that other teams will try to snag AND overpay in the process just in the hopes that he will return to form. Not this team. So, like the Pedro rumor, I'm trying to keep focused on the reality of our situation. It's not gonna happen.

A more informative article at marlins.com right now. My guess is somebody else picks this guy up and over pays. What's a shame, IMO, is that we won't be getting a good look at Lindstrom until after the WBC. There are still only 11 pitchers on that roster so he probably gets a slot. Less than a week to go before they have to submit the provisional 45 man roster.
