NOON - 6:00PM, DOLPHIN STADIUM (PARKING GATES OPEN AT 9:00AM)* * There will be a $5.00 charge for parking which can be applied as a credit towards the purchase of tickets during FanFest only.

All other money will be donated to the Florida Marlins Community Foundation

The 14th Annual Jiffy Lube Marlins FanFest will be at Dolphin Stadium on February 7, 2009 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Meet the players, get autographs, tour the stadium, listen to live music, take pictures with Billy and the Mermaids, and enjoy all the activities and entertainment. Don't miss Marlins FanFest 2009! http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/fla/fan_forum/fanfest.jsp

Sounds like a good time, and a good way to get some nice autographs and pics.

I don't say this to rain on your parade but autograph signings at Fanfest mean endless lines and countless hours in them. If you or your family or friends are looking for autographs it's much more casual and friendly the first few weeks of spring training, if you can make it to Jupiter.

I agree 100%. Those FanFest lines are a waste. You usually have no idea who is even in your line until you get to the front. It's stupid.

Spring Training practices for most teams in February are great. Last year I went to Astros camp in Kissimmee, and guys like Carlos Lee, Miguel Tejada, and Lance Berkman had to walk right by you to move around. It was easy to get whoever you wanted.

Was that because of the massive amounts of steroids they were consuming?

LOL, no. The only way for the players to move from the field to the batting cages was to go through the public area where fans can watch.

This is probably going to be the first year since 2002 that I will not attend FanFest. I don't want to deal with the lines of people who are more than likely NEVER to set foot in that stadium again for the rest of the year. I've already done all the tours of the press box, dugout, field, etc. that I really don't need to see them again. I already have my season tickets, so I don't care about the $5.00 credit to tickets, and last year my son got to play wiffle ball with the players (he hit a Lindstrom pitch right to Vanden Hurk in RF!) so I'm going to save myself the drive from Palm Beach.

I will, however, be at Roger Dean Stadium on the 15th and 16th for Pitchers and Catchers report. That's where my kids get their treasure trove of autographs. Last year my daugther just walked right up to Chris Volstad and got him to sign his Jupiter Hammerheads baseball card . . .

. . . and you can't beat the actual ACCESS with the players, like walking with them from the clubhouse to the practice fields . . .

Plus, my son is going to be an "Honorary Bat Kid" again. This time he'll be "working" the Monday night game against the Tigers on March 9, 2009. By the time we reach that game, he'll probably have ANOTHER baseball with the entire team -- joining our fully autographed baseballs of the 2003, 2005, and 2007 team! FYI, you should see his collection of other autographed balls. He got half the Indians and half the Astros last year. As a matter of fact, Astros closer Jose Valverde came over to us last year in Kissimmee completely unannounced and unsolicited to talk to me and my son and a group of Dominicans sitting behind us. He literally took my son's Astros baseball right off my lap and said to me in Spanish, "So, you got a pen?"

Any idea where I can find the Caravan schedule?

It should be out soon, remember that traditionally the caravan "ends" at FanFest.

If you guys want some access to the players, head over to Roger Dean around 11 during the week, I went yesterday and today and talked to and got autos from Volstad, Lindstrom, Anibal, Tank and others leaving the facility.

i need get better car so i can go see marlins at spring training game

Hi im going to the fanfest on saturday and havent been to one since 2004 so i just wanted to know some info like what players are gonna be there signing autographs and cool things to do that day..

Thank You

It is hit or miss as to who will be there. That type of stuff isn't announced. It all depends on who decides to show up. My experience in the past is that most of the players show. But if ur looking to see Hanley there, its gonna be a gamble. And even if he is, he'll probably be swamped.

I'm sure many on this board will agree that it may not be the best place to get up close w/ the players. But it still, IMO, is more for the event than any individual player. Gonna take both my kids and just make it a day.

Last year everyone showed up, to my knowledge. The year before, it was everyone but Mitre due to a personal issue and Miggie, due to him not wanting to show up because he was in arbitration.

If I remember correctly, the Marlins actually have it in the players contracts that they need to show up to FanFest.

Questions for thoose who have previously attended.

You only have to pay $5 for parking right?

Are food or drinks served and if so are they free?

So i can come prepared.

How do you become a VIP?

I would love to skip all the people in line.

You have to pay for food, unless they're giving out "free popcorn" like last year. VIP passes are given out at caravan events (which I find a joke -- they should be reserved for season ticket holders) so it's not like you're going to be skipping out on lines. Last year it looked like EVERYONE had a VIP pass so there was absolutely no advantage to having one. I just got my two in the mail, and my son convinced me to go because he wants to go -- not because I want to go.

This.

I didn't agree about how only ticket holders should have the VIP passes until this year, when I got my VIP passes in the mail for having a ticket plan. Strange what a change of circumstances will do to change your mind.

Wait, so are there any good advantages to having VIP passes? I got my two, but I wasn't planning on going for the reasons (long lines, etc.) stated above........does having a VIP pass change any of this?

Only in theory, until last season when everyone had VIP passes.

LOL. We haven't owned season tickets in a couple of years, but they sent 2 VIP passes to my parents anyway, who subsequently passed them on to me.

k got back from the FanFest, gotta say i think the marlins don't really know how to organize the event. Hanley had a baseball of mine in his hand, and the security guards grabbed him and gave me back the ball without a sig. Not pissed, i understand that they had to, but the mob surrounding the area was unbelievable. I believe i got overall JJ sig (my fav), Conine (classic), Anibal, Tucker, Leo Nunez, and had a conversation with Rich and Tommy in the dugout. He thought it was funny how my friend was wearing an FSU jersey and i was wearing a UF jersey. Overall i now actually remember why i liked spring training better than the fanfests, better environment to get the sigs.

Overall it was cool to get some sigs and the rides were fun for the younger kids out there, but the overall event could've been planned a lot better.

I had a very good time at Fan Fest. It was much better than past years. We got Jack McKeon & Dan Uggla to sign a ball. We got a bunch of free stuff. It was a fun time in general. I'll be posting pics sometime today or tomorrow.

Were you in an autograph line when Hanley was about to sign? Or was he just walking around? I would be pissed, he's the best shortstop in baseball...
