Can someone please tell me why many(not all) fans scorn the reports on the East when the Marlins are in second to last or last? Let me get this straight, those fans think that after trading Jacobs, Olsen, Willingham, Gregg(Ok I'll give you that one), and getting back unproven "talent"(Only one fielder in Bonaficio) then signing a washed-up reliever that is now hurt, that the Marlins will do BETTER than last year?

But from what I hear, the main "addition" is healthy Johnson and Sanchez, which havent pitched regularly as a starter in a Major League game in 2 years.

The Marlins minor leaguers Stanton, West, Skipworth, and a couple others still, according to some other fans, need "seasoning" down in the minors.

But please, enlighten me on how the Marlins are going to do better.

Cliffs Notes Version: Maybin is awesome... Johnny Baker is like Albert Pujols compared to Matt Treanor/Mike Rabelo, and we'll have our SP for a whole year *knock on wood*

Because Johnson, Nolasco, Volstad & Sanchez >>>>>>> Hendrickson, Olsen, VandenHurk & Badenhop

And Gaby Sanchez > Mike Jacobs. Jacobs was a negative. He was a negative offensively and a negative defensively. This is addition by subtraction.

So your telling me Badenhop was one of the starters last year?

At the beginning of the season yes, along with Hendrickson and VandenHurk, before the cavalry of JJ, Volstad and Sanchez returned/got called up.

Our Opening rotation last year was MH, RVH, SO, AM and then Nolasco joined slightly later as he opened in the pen. Badenhop made several starts in the 1st month or 2 also

Even if we did get nothing in return, which we did of course, what did we lose? Willingham and his bad back and lackluster offense? Olsen and his inconsistency? Jacobs and his lack of contact and horrible defense? and Gregg, well he's Gregg. Honestly the only player out of those that I will consider a loss might be Olsen because he did have bright spots, but is still wildly inconsistent, everyone else consitutes to addition by substraction.

Willingham's offense (when he played) was anything but lackluster...

But thats not reality. Thats blocking out what really happened by subsituting it for what they WANT it to be.

Really?

His second half numbers would beg to differ.

.238 .361 .440 .801

Sanchez > Jacobs

162 games of good OF play > 120 games (max) of Willingham (and post injury Willingham was lackluster)

Mirror test > Gregg

The true loss in all of that is Olsen.

Sanchez is batting .200 in his Spring Training tryout. He is trying his hardest to make the team right now and this is what he delivers.

Jacobs is batting .317 when hes already guarenteed a spot.

Yes, because ST numbers always translate into the regular season.

But he will still only hit around .250 in the proper season

Perhaps Gaby is trying too hard atm and hence isnt producing his best. Even if he struggles at first during the regular season, we still have a combo of Helms, McPherson and Bonaficio to fill out different corner infield spots. Obviously Cantu has his spot.

And you think Jacobs is going to hit .317? I don't think he's going to hit .265.

I will admit im a little worried about gaby. i think he'l lbe fine in the field but hes gonna hav eto hit better than he is in ST.

So your telling me Badenhop was one of the starters last year?

8 GS, yes...

8 GS=Rotation Starter?

GS

SP *Scott Olsen 33

SP Ricky Nolasco 32

SP *Andrew Miller 20

SP *Mark Hendrickson 19

SP Chris Volstad 14

^^^^These werent them?

Miller - 20

Hendrickson - 19

Volstad - 14

there's what we're talking about. Miller started only 20, Volstad only 14. Whoever started in place of them generally wasn't very good. Hendrickson in general wasn't very good either. That's quite a few games. Part of the point is that if our top 5 are healthy (which is always a big "if"), the pitching will be better.

Jacobs, Olsen, and Gregg are fine but it's not like they're leaving holes.

Jacobs may be facing tryouters and rockin off them but so is Sanchez and hes not delivering.

I think you lack understand of just how bad Jacobs was.

I think Gaby or whoever plays first will hit at or near Jacobs BA this year but will NOT produce as much HRs RBIs or HITs (But strikeouts too)
