March 23, 200917 yr McPherson and Andino are out of options, no? They are, basically, locks to make the team.

March 23, 200917 yr McPherson and Andino are out of options, no? They are, basically, locks to make the team. Same goes for DeLaCruz. I would be least surprised to see them DFA Andino out of those 3. However, given our injuries to Lindstrom, Proctor, and Amezaga, as well as the fact that we don't need a 4th started for a couple of weeks, we have a lot of places to plug the out-of-options guys to start the year. And once the year has started, clearing waivers becomes a lot easier. Also, Kroenke played himself off the roster, and I can't imagine Tankersley starting the year in the bigs - Pinto and Meyer will be the lefties, IMO.

Now that Amezaga's injured, I don't see why they wouldn't let Andino get his spot come Opening Day...giving Bonifacio some more time in the minors.

Now that Amezaga's injured, I don't see why they wouldn't let Andino get his spot come Opening Day...giving Bonifacio some more time in the minors. I think Bonifacio has a better chance than Andino. Bonifacio has had a great spring and is more versatile and can play outfield and infiled and can lead off.

Andino can do those things, as well...although Bonifacio, I'm sure, has some more experience, due to his time with Licey, but still... 2. Our leadoff hitter's name is Cameron Maybin. Lets hope it stays that way. That's all I'm gonna say about Bonifacio and leading off, if you get what I'm trying to say here.
March 23, 200917 yr I don't feel Tankersley should make the team. He has struggled mightely last season and this spring training.

Kind of hard to justify giving Andino a roster spot when he's struggling to hit above .200 this spring. I'm thinking the bench will look like this on opening day (assuming Gaby is starting at first): 1. Helms 2. Rabelo 3. McPherson 4. Carroll 5. Bonifacio Bonifacio wouldn't be with the team long with Amezaga coming off the DL soon after the season starts. Now if Gaby doesn't make the the team, and McPherson is starting opposite Cantu at third, then I could see Andino making the team.
March 23, 200917 yr Regarding the original post, I highly doubt Tank makes the team as he has struggled mightily at times in ST and it seems Pinto and Meyer are the lefties out the pen. Also I would include Lindstrom there cos he seems pretty confident he wont miss any of the regular season.
March 23, 200917 yr I have a hunch that Fredi is gonna get Bonifacio to lead-off v righties (Career OBP v L .180 v R .337) and Maybin v lefties. My guesses are: v RHP Bonifacio (3B) Maybin (CF) Ramirez (SS) Cantu (1B) Uggla (2B) Hermida (LF) Ross (RF) Baker © v LHP Maybin (CF) Baker © Ramirez (SS) Cantu (3B) Uggla (2B) Hermida (LF) Ross (RF) Sanchez (1B)
March 23, 200917 yr Sanchez pitched well Saturday, Nolasco goes without saying, today its Johnson in the scheduled game and Miller pitching a minor league one after a respectable outing . Volstad was scoreless in his last start. And the season doesn't start until April 6th. Yeah, yeah, yeah it's spring training but d*mn things are looking good at least rotation-wise. As for the rest I would guess if McPherson can come back and show "something", anything, Gaby goes to AAA. Carroll is the 4th outfielder, Bonifacio the fifth and Andino gets another taste until AA gets back. But before things are in concrete don't forget there are three open spots on the 40 man roster so things could change in a heartbeat.

March 23, 200917 yr My twelve pitchers: the five starters, Kensing, Pinto, Meyer, Koronka, Nunez, Calero and Lindstrom. If Lindstrom and/or Miller don't start with the main squad, I'm guessing a pitcher viewed as a long reliever would be added. Don't know how you keep Calero off the roster. Also, I like Koronka for a third lefty relief pitcher.

Now that Amezaga's injured, I don't see why they wouldn't let Andino get his spot come Opening Day...giving Bonifacio some more time in the minors. Andino is playing like sh*t in ST while Bonifacio is tearing it up. That, plus his advantage on defense at multiple positions, is going to get him that roster spot.

I'm personally fine with either one at the utility spot coming off the bench.
March 23, 200917 yr I don't think just because somebody is out of options means they are a lock to make the club. We may have DFA a guy or two but it's not the end of the world Teams do it all the time, and we have been lucky not to have to do it as much. I think Andino might be released. He has promise but just seems like a AAA guy for life. Hopefully he keeps improving and proves us wrong but his chance with us is likely over. Amezaga's injury gives him a better chance to stay up, but what happens when he comes back?

Amezaga's injury gives him a better chance to stay up, but what happens when he comes back? It's not the end of the world to DFA somebody but with the type of organization we are, we need to keep our hands on as much cheap labor as we can get. Without organizational depth, we aren't gonna be able to replace guys who get injured because there won't be anyone to call up from the minors. I don't know if this is gonna keep Andino on the team or not because his performance hasn't been good, but it will at least factor in a little bit. It's also worth noting that we could be filling the last spots on our roster with guys who were waived by their current organizations. We're not the only ones in this situation and our bullpen for the first month of 2006 seemed almost entirely composed of DFA'd guys. Given that we couldn't sign anybody to fill our bench, this is a very likely possibility.
March 24, 200917 yr McPherson and Andino are out of options, no? They are, basically, locks to make the team. Really? Dallas hasn't been in a game since the 18th, and then he came in as a PH, had two ABs, and Kd in one of those. Day before that he gave an interview to Frisaro saying he wants to be an every day starter, didn't come here to be a bench player. Is he hurt? I haven't read anything saying that. ST games? Fine, But ST stats for a guy that is in heavy competition to make this team and needs to show what he can do. And he is being outplayed big time. At the plate and in the field.
March 24, 200917 yr Bob, Dallas has a sore oblique, (one of) the same injuries he had last spring and took him out of the running early then. That's why you haven't seen him in the lineup.

Where did you see that? Not that I'm questioning you, just that I haven't seen anything about it. When is he expected back? This could be good news. Start him out on the DL and sneak him through wavers. At $550K he's a nice option to have waiting in the wings, just in case.
March 28, 200917 yr Now that the Marlins have acquired Paulino there seems to be about 3 decisions to be made on the final 25 an Roster 1. Meyer or Koronka in the Bullpen? 2. 4 or 5 Outfielders (I believe there will be 4 with ADA going to New Orleans and Carroll making the final roster) 3. Do Gabby and/or McPherson go on the DL? Andino can still make the Roster
March 28, 200917 yr Couldn't McPherson, if we're not gonna be using him, be traded somewhere for a bag of chips or something? I imagine the Yankees could use a filler while ARod is out. Also, Joe Crede isn't exactly tearing it up this ST. I just hope that we can move this guy if he's not gonna be used.

Bench: Paulino, Helms, De Aza, McPherson, Andino (amezaga will replace him once he comes back)
