JUPITER ? The Marlins, recognizing the economy's downturn, are offering what might be a first at a major league baseball game - a chance for the team to make your monthly mortgage payment. During each of 11 Super Saturday games, the Marlins will award one fan a check for up to $2,500 toward a mortgage or rent payment. On two other Saturdays - June 20 against the Yankees and Sept. 26 against the Mets - the Marlins will give a fan a check for up to $15,000 for payment of mortgage principal or an annual lease.

Fans can register for this contest on the Web (www.marlins.com).

The team also announced three other programs:

Cars with at least four fans will get a $25 voucher toward the purchase of tickets for select future games.

On Workforce Mondays, unemployed South Florida residents can get four free tickets by showing government-issued unemployment documentation.

Military personnel can attend Sunday fames at no cost.

I personally think this is very cool and smart. It's kind of like the Hyundai deal, I think it is? (It might be a different car company) They give you some sort of forgiveness on your lease if you lose your job, and then you can return it for [allegedly] no cost.

Ho shitz, is this true!?! Ahhh...can't wait to go down and visit the family :notworthy

Unfortunately $2,500 would not pay my mortgage. As I'm English and we all live in castles...

Damn you and your castles. All we have up north are hills, caves, haggis, porridge and whisky. We get by tho.....

I would have rather had them use the money to sign Ohman.

This probably comes out of the promotional budget. That's like people saying they rather use the stadium money for teachers.

marlins are happy that ballpark deal is done and deliver so their trying get more to become season ticket holder plus fullup saturday game too i think saturday game with good contest will get good crowd

Maybe I'm blind but I can't find where on the Marlins website I can register for the giveaway.

I'm just wondering, why do they specify what the money has to go towards? Why can't I waste the money (hypothetically were i to win) on my new car payments or textbooks?

Why do the team have so much promotion things, i was checking a ad in the papers and saw after nearly every saturday game their is a concert with some entertainer, do something with the money for players, if the singers and bands are sponser by some company that is ok by me, i would love to see the budget for promotion for a season, Mermaids dancing, Fat guys like me making fools of themselves, no wonder fans don't come to game, before the experts start bashing me, i'm a season ticketholder. thank you.

Uh...they did this last year....and you are just now complaining about it? Not to mention, Super Saturdays always had much larger attendance....so something must be working.

I say something about it last year in one of the hundred threads about attendance

Then you should know those Saturday games are a big draw. Have you ever stayed for the post game concert/fireworks? In big letters all around the stadium it says "Sponsored by..." And the Manatees are a crowd fav. I don't think they get paid anything tho. Mermaids are also a crowd pleaser. And other teams are now copying that idea. And it's funny watching Hanley dancing along with them in the dugout while they do their pregame routine on the field. I also like the Minnows. Although I think some of their moves are a little too "adult-ish", if you get my meaning. Plus I'm not a big fan of heavy makeup on little girls (only one or two do that). But I assume that's more of a parental thing than an orginazational thing.

Where on website can I sign up for this contest? Can someone please tell me or send me the link. Thanks

ok what i get about marlins mortgage payout is that not every saturday game here what marlins news say Among the initiatives are Marlins Mortgage Payout, which ties in to the SuperSaturdays concert promotions.

On 11 of the 13 SuperSaturdays, one fan will be awarded a check for up to $2,500 toward his or her monthly mortgage or rent payment. During the June 20 game with the Yankees and the Sept. 26 game with the Mets, a fan at each game will be awarded a check for up to $15,000 toward: 1) the principal on his or her mortgage, or 2) the remainder of the winner's annual lease.

South Florida fans are encouraged to log onto www.marlins.com and enter the Marlins Mortgage Payout.

Manatees get payed in 2 free tickets for the game they perform at.

Okay. Guess that's better than a free coke and hot dog. But seeing one of them is actually the dancing peanut vendor guy, I would imagine they get their share of those as well.
