Brad Arnsberg still a bitter bitter man

Featured Replies

what a whiny bitch. I take exception to the Perry Hill thing, unless we were all lead to believe he didn't leave because of his wife's illness and left because he hated the front office. Perry also was a mandated holdover to the Girardi staff, they didn't want to lose him when Girardi came in.

Staff writer Joe Capozzi spoke with Toronto pitching coach Brad Arnsberg, who coached at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday for the first time since the Marlins fired him and manager Jeff Torborg in 2003.

Have you ever spoken with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria since your firing?

Never.

Baseball operations president Admin Beinfest?

Not once.

Anyone from the team?

Not one of them. Never seen them. Even when I came to Florida two years ago when (the Blue Jays) played the Marlins, they never came out. Nobody ever tried to find me.

It's been more than five years. Does the firing still bother you?

It will always hurt a little bit because I felt like I had helped build a huge family.

That was such an ugly breakup. And then they went on to win the World Series. How did that make you feel?

I felt like I was huge part of that. I always did and I always will. A lot of my players called me from second base at Yankee Stadium the night they won. I got on the phone with Beckett and all the fellas. That made me feel like I had served my purpose. But I turned the page on that front office and those people the minute I walked out of there.

Did you get a ring?

Yes, I got a ring. It might be the D or E or F model. I have no idea. I've never put it on my finger. The only thing it has ever been out of its case for is my kids took it to Show and Tell when they were younger. I would never wear it. I would wear minor-league rings before I'd ever wear anything that those people were surrounded by. I have a gun safe where I keep my important paperwork, but I would never think about putting that ring in because if I lost it, it wouldn't bother me.

No love lost.

Absolutely. What's interesting to me is the amount of people who were with that system, who were let go, who have all prospered in the major leagues. It kind of shows who really was holding the trump cards in each of their situations - the Arnsbergs, Perry Hill, Joe Girardi. Come on, the list keeps going, there's a common denominator here.

What's the common denominator?

It's them. Pretty simple. I have loved my time in Toronto. It's nice to be with baseball people who really do listen to what you have to say.

Boohoo. Isn't this the guy that was a "wrestler" on the side, or his son was? I disliked him just because of that...

I believe that was Torborg, not Arnsberg.

I can't fault him for being upset, he did a lot for Beckett and Penny. Until last season Burnett's best was 2002, of course he was useless in 2003 and I think the FO blamed him for that. Torborg thought enough of him to lose his job. Also looking at the crack medical staff the Marlins have in place now and even then he can't be blamed for Burnett, especially in light of the Sanchez and JJ injuries.

every team has pitchers get injured and need surgery, it's hardly the Marlins fault. If anything for JJ, blame Girardi for putting him back after that rain delay.

i really want to know why perry hill was let go and why he wasnt brought back which i wish he was.

He wasn't let go, he had to leave because his wife because sick not long after giving birth to Perry Jr.

No idea as to why he wasn't brought back though, could have been any number of things.

Hill didn't come back to baseball until after he was replaced by the Marlins. Hill now has a job, so its not like we can just fire Fox and rehire him. I believe the Marlins did try and bring him back, though.

That's my guess. I don't think he would want to come back here because Fox is his protegee (as unbelievable as that is) and he wouldn't want to be the cause of his firing.

But I said I don't know because that's just a shot in the dark.

Correct, Dale Torborg was the former wrestler "The Demon." He was the strength and conditioning coach for the Fish the short time Jeff was there. He was actually a really cool guy, I remember having long conversations about the Marlins (and even a little wrestling) down by the bullpen in Viera.

Actually, he's still in baseball and not really wrestling anymore. I see he is the S/C coach for the White Sox, and won the WS w/ the team in 05.

This was in Saturday morning's paper. And I was at Friday night's game. Wish I had seen this before then. Would have been happy to look him up and find out how much he and those other guys have accomplished since being fired or leaving the Marlins. And to give him my address, because if he cares so little for that ring he could mail it to me. At least I would appreciate it.

Probably went over there with Ozzie.
