April 26, 200917 yr I was at the game.Let me say, Jeffrey Loria stormed from his seat and walked off shaking his head left to right in anger. that in the world? Where you get that pic of Hanley? lol!! Think Loria DFA'd Kensing? :mis2 Well Kensing has certainly been given every opportunity to stick with the club and has failed.
April 26, 200917 yr I would like to see the Marlins get Steven Shell from Nationals now that he's at the tail end of his DFA period. Guy had a terrific 2008, I think there's still something there. If I remember Rizzo DFA's him as much because he didn't like his "aura" as his effectiveness in the first two weeks of this season. I usually am not big on cast-offs like him but something makes me think he could be different. I like this. He's certainly worth a look for basically free. Not to make more out of this than it deserves but I just came accross this... "...Relievers Steven Shell and Wil Ledezma, who were designated for assignment last Sunday, have until Tuesday to see if they cleared waivers. At that point, Rizzo said, the Nationals will communicate with the players' respective agents to see if they want to be released or accept a minor league assignment." http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/26/johnson-gets-comfortable-in-no-2-spot/
April 26, 200917 yr Too bad about the 'Misadventures' skits. I can say as a Latin male living in South Florida there is NOTHING more appealing than watching two, overpaid, rich men play golf.
April 26, 200917 yr so if taylor is taking miller's place who's going to take kensing's place on the team
April 26, 200917 yr I wasn't going to mention Loria there last night but he was one unhappy puppy, really unhappy puppy, which from our perspective I think is a good thing as far as Marlins' fans are concerned. I know more than a few may disagree and one or two in particular for whom this post is an open invitation to spew their crap, but even if you hate the guy, even if you have your own cock-eyed conspiracy thing going, have to realize that with $580-800 million in new stadium-related sales (tix, skyboxes, naming right, concessions, advertising) they are trying to achieve before they open the place, the guy wants to win this season at all costs. If you agree he's a highly competitive guy who loves baseball and winning, if you hate him and think he's the devil incarnate who just wants to line his pockets with more gold so be it, but either way altruism or greed, winning in 2009 is a prerequisite to whatever he seeks to accomplish.
April 26, 200917 yr jeez, taylor makes miller look like johan santana. they should just have let badenhop or penn start.
April 26, 200917 yr jeez, taylor makes miller look like johan santana. they should just have let badenhop or penn start. I would have prefered someone who has pitched at the big league level before, and even better if they pitched for the Marlins in the big leagues (i.e. Hopper). That way, we all know what to expect. And they aren't been thrown to the wolves in their first start.
April 26, 200917 yr Let's see what he looks like in his next start, his line should be two runs less were it not for errant left field play. That's baseball. And yeah, he looked as nervous as a mosquito in a frog pond, no argument there but now that he has his first game behind him and Wiley has seen him in real-time, let's see if between the two of them they can make the adjustments he needs to or else it's back to AA and we go from there.

April 26, 200917 yr i dont care how unhappy Loria was. This team had 3-4 big question marks starting the season that could have been addressed (cheaply I might add) and the only thing we did was add Paulino. We could have signed Abreu for under 6 million and his bat would look great right now in our lineup. I was also pretty upset we didnt resign someone like a Hendrickson or try for a Livan just in case we needed an emergency starter. What is Livan getting paid by NY? a million? No team goes through the whole year with the same five starters. Injuries, struggles, etc.. it was a really dumb move not to sign anyone. We knew we didnt have anything waiting in the wings either in terms of pitching in the minors and that was a problem that is realtively inexpensive to fix. But the biggest mistake and the biggest question mark at the beggining of the year was allowing Lindstrom to be the closer. Lindstrom has floundered under pressure every time in his role as a closer. Last year he picked up some nice saves at the end of the year when we were out of the race. But then we kind of got back in it and what did he do? He blew a save. He cant handle the closer role. He has never shown he can either, so to go into the season naming him the closer was a joke and a cheap out. I think Im frustrated because I see how close we are and to me the Marlins FO could have addressed these problems (minus Abreu which was more of a luxury) for under 5 million. But they are cheap and didnt. So I dont want to hear how angry they are that the bullpen sucks or we have no leadoff hitters etc... They could have addressed all these problems and still had the lowest payroll in baseball but they didnt, so Lorias tantrums seem kind of puzzling to me.

I agree with you regarding the starting pitching. Of course hindsight is 20/20, but if they knew going into spring training that they were going to work on Miller's mechanics because they were not happy with they way he was pitching, they should have had signed a cheap veteran for long relief/spot starts in case Miller doesn't get it worked out quickly, or at all. If they didn't know that they would be working on Miller's mechanics, then I guess that is why they got Penn, but they haven't used him as a spot starter and it doesn't seem they will. As far as Lindstrom, the Marlins always take a gamble with their closer. They love to find the castoffs and give their careers a rebirth. Maybe after the Julio fiasco a few years back and Gregg's downturn at the end of last season, they decided to go with Lindstrom as in-house guy. But one blown save last year does not indicate anything about Lindstrom long term viability as a closer, no matter the circumstances. We are now seeing how he truly fits into that role.
April 26, 200917 yr im going to miss logan...miss him for about a week. then, i dont really care. i used to be one of his biggest supporters but now? eh he blows.
April 26, 200917 yr luis vizcaino got released. why not give him a shot since our bullpen needs help I'd rather have Jose Vizcaino.
April 26, 200917 yr What's with Beinfest sending kids to the bigs without a full season of AA under their belt. He did it with Kensing, Vanden Hurk, Badenhop , partially with Tucker, and now Taylor. There could be more I haven't thought of. They're almost never effective stop-gaps, and it can't be great for their development. If your not going to use AAA as a development level, at least give them a sufficient amount of AA innings before they get raked in the show. There are plenty of cheap "6th SP" you can stick in New Orleans that would be somewhat effective without hurting a youngsters confidence.
April 26, 200917 yr Still think it's ironic that Taylor is taking Kensing's place on the roster. 5 years ago Kensing came up for similar reasons as Taylor.

They brought up a guy who had been able to throw strikes and keep the walks down (a bb every 5 innings in his career to date). Instead he did the opposite. The umpire was no help, and the defense betrayed him, but six walks in 3+ was his undoing. BTW I agree about more development coming out of NOLA but this is their first season there and I think going forward over the next few years you'll see the natural progression from A to AA to AAA that didn't happen when we were in Albuquerque.
April 27, 200917 yr Taylor's age also played a huge factor I'm sure, since he's already 25. In getting called up, I mean.
April 29, 200917 yr Kensing has been traded to the Nats for right hander Kyle Gunderson (saw it on another site)
