Maybe this warrants it's own thread, maybe it doesn't but Fredi has decided to change things around for tonight's game:

In an offensive rut, the Marlins have shaken up their lineup a bit for Wednesday night's game with the Braves.

Speed is at the top of the order, and John Baker was slid to the fifth spot, bumping Dan Uggla down to the sixth hole.

Here's how the lineup looks:

1. Bonifacio

2. Maybin

3. Hanley

4. Cantu

5. Baker

6. Uggla

7. Hermida

8. Ross

9. Taylor

Uggla needs to get it going.

I know he's been getting unlucky on some of his line drives, but he's also been flying out and popping out way too much.

(Need I mention his strike outs in seemingly important situations?)

Uggla is going to strike out, he gets robbed every game it seems. I would have gone with:

Maybin

Baker

Ramirez

Cantu

Hermida

Uggla

Ross

Taylor

Bonifacio

Lovely two outs at the top of the order. But whateve we won the last time it was set up this way.

As for uggla I don't think it matters if he hit the ball to the moon a space shuttlle would proably hit it and knock it down back to some ones glove.

Maybin was having better swings as a 2nd hitter. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure why he changed that, to begin with.

So we're going to solve our problem of having not enough OBP at the top of the line up by a .383 OBP with a .282 OBP.

Genius! Why would we care about getting on base at a 10% better clip?

lol, yeah I'm not really sure what this is supposed to accomplish... maybe he's hoping to get Maybin going, but otherwise...

we are putting our best contact hitter 5th??? :thumbdown

Well, on the bright side, he's clutch.

Lineups aren't terribly important. I also expect Maybin to perform better at the top of the lineup than at the bottom. Bonifacio on the other hand needs to hit 9th.

Fredi:" Hey, what do you think I should do with the lineup? Hermida is having problems getting good hits but is walking and getting on base a ton."

Tosca: "Fredi, we need to put him in the the back so that he can get the need to drive runs in."

Presley: "Yeah! And tell him to be more aggressive! HACK HACK HACK!"

Bo: "And I'll make sure to tell him to go home if he ever makes it to third."

Fox: "Yeah, I haven't spoke to him in a week. Looks fine on my end."

Fredi: "Sounds like a plan guys."

John Baker strikes out in 22% of his ABs.

Dan Uggla strikes out in 22% of his ABs.

One of these guys is a free swinger who hacks at everything. One of these guys is "our best contact hitter!!!!!"

Rest of the starting lineup:

Cody Ross: 24%

Hermida: 23%

Cantu: 15%

Maybin: 33% (lolz)

Boner: 24%

Hanley (TOOO FREE SWINGING): 15%

Contact rate:

Baker: 88.1%

Hanley: 83.4%

Hermida: 80.8%

Cantu: 80.3%

Cody: 78.5%

Emilio: 78.4%

Uggla: 76.9%

Maybin: 70.2% (lol)

% of balls swung out:

Emilio: 48.6%

Cantu: 46.5%

Cody: 45.9%

Maybin: 44.7%

Hanley: 43.9%

Uggla: 40.8%

Hermida: 38.2%

Baker: 36.7%

% of balls outside of strike zone swung at:

Cantu: 31.3%

Cody: 28.6%

Emilio: 28.3%

Maybin: 25%

Hermida: 24.1%

Hanley: 19%

Uggla: 18.8%

Baker: 18.5%

So yeah, Baker's been our best contact guy.

Contact rate:

% of balls swung out:

Where does one find that stuff?

www.fangraphs.com

http://www.fangraphs.com/winss.aspx?team=M...009&month=0

They also show the % of time of a certain pitch (fb/slider/ect) is thrown at a batter (pitch type tab)

Also same thing for pitches (swing/contact rates against, % of time certain pitches are thrown)

Is "Zone %" the % of pitches that are in the strike zone?

If yes, Maybin has the highest % of strikes on the team among starters so the theory that he has stuggled because he's hitting 8th and getting nothing to hit wouldn't fly.

Yep. I made a thread about that a couple weeks ago. He's also barely been getting less FB that emilio, for the "he won't get fast balls in the 8 spot"
