May 14, 200917 yr Hanley needs to bat third for this team to be successful. Bonifacio will have his growing pains but he is coming out of his slump and is the ideal leadoff guy if he can get his OPS up. Bake should be hitting #2 because he has been successful there and let the new guy Coughlin try to contribute to the lower part of the order. The problem most of the year has been the lower part of the order. It seems no one can hit down there. We need Ugs to start find gaps, especially that gap over the fence. Cody needs to be Cody. Hermida needs to crap or get of the pot already. Of course without Nolasco getting back to any version of last years Ricky we can pack up the tent and call it a season. But assuming he does get better, and he must, I think that Marlins need to find a legitimate bottom of the rotation guy. A Mark Redman type circa 2003 that will give you a chance to win and finish with 10-12 wins and not lose more than that. It's scary right now. We need to start winning. But at least we have a few players slumping right now. That means that a bunch of guys are due for a hot streak.

Some people need to grow up. Actually, a 5 game hit streak going right now. You have a point. It's not exactly the right time to do some Boni-hating. Wait until he is in a slump or at least isn't doing as well as some of the guys that are loved here no matter how badly they are playing. But you have to remember, he beat out a BGB for that 3B job. The hate will continue for a while yet. Remember the hate filled posts about Cantu last year at this time? Different type hitters, but they came by that job identically.

In an ideal world, Maybin would have started the season hitting leadoff, produced to a respectable level .260-.270 and either Gaby Sanchez or Chris Coghlan would be playing at 3B, with Bonifacio on the bench as a utility player.

He's doing as well as could be expected. He's a light hitting midget middle infielder that should be hitting 8th. It's not his fault the manager put him in whta is generally a power position (3B) leading-off. Just because the manager is a dummy doesn't mean his expectations should change. Also, Maybin had more than half his plate appearances leading-off or hittign second so the "he's hitting 8th getting nothing to hit" excuse doesn't fly.
May 14, 200917 yr HANLEY NEEDS TO BAT 3rd NOT LEAD OFF EVERYONE NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THIS! i saw a stat somewhere, when hitting first, you hit with runners on 33 percent of the time, hittign 3rd its 49 percent of the time. i think id rather have hanley hit with runners on half the time than a third.

His career minor league average and on base percentage is similar to Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla, and Miguel Cabrera. He may not be that talented, and his game may need some major work. But don't say he's undeserving of a chance. He has a history of success. Hopefully, for our sake and his, that continues that at the major league level.

Because you failed to acknowledge this fairly interesting statistical comparison: Hanley Career Minor Leage OBP - .351 Emilio Career Minor Leage OBP - .341 K/BB is important, but so is getting on base. The point is you said "he never showed much at the minor league level" and that is probably an exaggeration. The BB/K ratio is important, but it is definitely not the only way someone can 'show something' in the minors. I agree with JRD that the EB hatred is over-the-top and often very sophomoric.
