My question is, who would you trade and why? Be realistic here, too. It's pretty much a given we're not Bonifacio(ut)...basically, I'm asking who you'd trade of the Uggla's, Cantu's, Cody's, Hermida's, and (insert reliever here). I assume we can include someone like Amezaga, too, in the discussion.

Uggla and Hermida would be gone because of their value rising as of late. If they continue it would be a given. Cantu is another that could easily go in a package with Uggla to the Giants.

 

Other than that, I'm not 100% who else would go. I don't see Cody going although they have discussed getting rid of him

 

One thing is for sure though. Sooner rather than later we are going to start seeing the Morrison's, Sanchez's, Raynor's, etc...

I have "grown up" with so many guys on this team that when anyone of those players gets traded I will be upset. Seeing Hermida, Cody, Uggla etc on a different team would just make me angy and upset. With saying that, I would not mind if Cantu is traded. I really want to see the guy who is 2 years younger than me play first (Morrison).

I think Dan Uggla makes the most sense to be gone. He's a player that other teams would want and I believe he's the 2nd highest paid player on the payroll. It would also allow for either Coghlan to move to 2B or Bonifacio to move to 2B.

 

After that, Cantu is someone I could see go because other teams can see the type of ABs he has and how productive a player he has been.

 

I don't think other teams place the same kind of value on Hermida or Ross as the Marlins do. I just don't think the Marlins will believe they'd get a fair deal. Does this mean the Marlins Front Office overrates Hermida and Ross? Maybe so.

I wonder about Kiko being traded. Hed be up for FA after this year right? With they way hes pitched we should be able to get something decent for him.

I think Uggla will be traded sooner rather than later...Get what you can for him now (At least a reliever), and put Coghlan at 2nd...I think over time Coghlan's offense will get better..He may have less power, but I think he will be a better contact hitter

Kiko's my guy, too. I mean, if we gave up Gaby Hernandez for Arthur Rhodes as a LOOGY, then I would hope that Calero would fetch an even better prospect. We need to hold onto Dan Meyer.

I know he never gets mentioned & the Marlins seem to have a lovefest for him too, but Matt Lindstrom would have to be a candidate too, right? I mean, why not?

 

And I'm hoping we don't trade both Cody and Hermida b/c I don't see how we could replace 2 OF'ers so quickly. If they do keep an OF'er, I'd rather it be Hermida over Cody Ross, but that's just me.

I'm also hoping we can trade Wes Helms & his contract for a bag of peanuts. Still don't understand why we gave Wes Helms a 2 year contract...

If the Marlins do make trades, I hope it's to a team so desperate for help that they cough up a good prospect... like years ago when reliever Admin Anderson was traded for Jeff Bagwell... makes me think Kiko can be traded for someone like that

Yea but it is still difficult. When the Marlins had a garage sale in 2005-2006 my mom and I were one of the first people to "meet" the players in spring training. We love our boys especially the newbies .

I don't want Cantu traded. He's been our second best hitter going on two seasons now and is still young. Outside of Hanley and Cantu we have not had any kind of consistent offense.

Well, every player after a 1 year contract is "arbitration eligible". The question is if they're club controlled. If they're club controlled, they have no choice but to take arbitration (or a contract by the team). If they aren't, then they can reject arbitration and become a FA.

 

Kiko is not club controlled. However, I find it VERY unlikely he's a type B FA. He'll have almost no saves, and he'll only be pitching for one year (keep in mind type FA status is based off of a 2 year period).

 

However, don't expect anything more than at most a C+ prospect. When we traded Gaby for Rhodes, Gaby's value had plummeted, and he's not doing good this year either (ERA just barely under 5 in AAA).

 

As far as Cantu goes, he still has another year of club control. So he can not deny arbitration, we cannot collect compensation picks off of him. Considering how bleak our future at third base is looking, I hope we keep him. And then if we find someone else, wether it be we decide to spend on a FA 3b or trade for a club controlled 3b, we can then trade him. If we don't find anybody, keep him all of '10, then offer him compensation.

Trade Uggla, that's it. Put Coghlan at 2B where he should be, and let one of the average prospects take over LF for the rest of the season. Then Logan will take over LF in 2010.
