August 5, 200916 yr Anyone get the feeling that outside the ball park our announcers dont get along? Maybe Im looking at this wrong, but a few weeks back when the Marlins were in San Diego, an emailer asked if the two "hangout" during the offseason. Rich's reply was "you don't want to know about tommy and I" then he went to the question. The way he shut that question down made me wonder if the two actually get along outside the booth. What do you guys think?
August 5, 200916 yr I remember being so surprised hearing when I was younger that Joe Morgan and Jon Miller didn't hang out or weren't good friends outside the broadcast booth, so it's possible.
August 5, 200916 yr During the same telecast they said something about texting and calling each other quite a bit, something along the lines of the phone beeps and the wife says "what does he want now"? I think they get along fine
August 5, 200916 yr I bet they hang out once in a while but I'm sure they're not best friends. I don't think tommy works during the off season and I beleive Rich does other sports.
August 5, 200916 yr i dont think the chemistry is always there in the booth, it seems like tommy cuts off rich alot and i dont think rich likes that. but i still think there friends.
August 5, 200916 yr na i dont think they hate each other or anything like that. They sure have little time to be hanging around together as both have families kids and grandsons to be hanging every weekend. They also mentioned how they couldnt wait for november to come to play golf
August 5, 200916 yr I love how Rich and Tommy make the game so enjoyable with their stories and their inside-stuff (Like Dan Uggla, or the Hammer stuff), and their chemistry is great. I do get a feeling sometimes, in the post-games, when Tommy is talking and Rich is just looking at him with this... half-smile on his face at times, that Rich is thinking "Just shut the f*** up for once."
August 5, 200916 yr I think it was more of a "you dont wanna know the crazy sh*t me and tommy do" rather than they don't like each other.
August 5, 200916 yr I'm sure they get along just fine. They have such a great presence in the booth. Now, Glen Geffner and Dave Van Horne, they seem like they don't get along much. It seems like Geffner ALWAYS cuts off Dave and the tone in which doesn't sound like they're fond of each other. I for one cannot stand Glen Geffner. His pitch swings in his voice really annoy the sh*t out of me. So I could see Dave Van Horne reaching back and smacking Geffner during a broadcast. lol On another note, has anyone ever noticed how Rich looks like a walking bobble head in person? lol
August 5, 200916 yr I personally think Rich and Tommy get along great...as for what they do in the booth, I've had friends who are fans of other teams who watch numerous games around the league every week say that Rich and Tommy are amongst the most enjoyable play by play guys in the league if not the best (Even a Cub fan friend of mine)
August 5, 200916 yr Does anybody miss Joe Angel? I sure as heck do, there's nobody who can top him out...
August 5, 200916 yr I think they get along great. They are definetely the most enjoyable announcers I've heard for any sport..to me at least, especially when we do something like hit a walk off HR. When Cody hit that ball sunday Rich and Tommy went berserk, it made the moment so much more awesome! I absolutely detest the Rays announcers, they are ridiculously boring and ignorant. Remember that they both have families and Tommy is considerably older than Rich so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't hang THAT much during the offseason. They did say they were going bowling after the game last night...but it could've been a joke play on their tommy bahama shirts.
August 5, 200916 yr On another note, has anyone ever noticed how Rich looks like a walking bobble head in person? lol Yes! Finally! Someone else sees this! When he's sitting down next to Tommy and Tommy is talking (post-games), you can see how his head bobbles slightly... I think they get along great. The only people that match Tommy and Rich are Hispanic Soccer announcers. That walk-off by Cody was just... exciting. Tommy went like "It's over!" in this tone as if he an 8 year old watching his first baseball game. Those guys truly are part of the Marlins TV experience.

Tommy sounded like he was going to have a heart attack. Also, when Boni hit the ball over Fukedome's head Saturday night, Rich was so flabbergasted he could barely say what was going on. If anything, they are perfect come from behind/comeback announcers. They treat it like they have never seen anything like what the Marlins were doing before, but that's what makes it great.
August 5, 200916 yr I heard them mention last night that they were going bowling after the game, or were they being sarcastic because their shirts looked like bowling shirts?
August 6, 200916 yr The two really seem to be on the same wavelength at all times in the booth. I have a hard time imagining that they don't get along and don't have out a bit. In fact, I imagine that they hang out a lot because being on the road with people you get along with kind of forces good relationships. There are lots of pairings around the league where guys are just talking and going through the motions, but this doesn't seem to be the case with Rich & Tommy.
August 6, 200916 yr Be funny to find out they actually paint the town red on the road . Crazy ass mofos

For Rich, broadcasting itself is a career so he does it more often. But no matter who they work with, I'm sure it pales in comparison to working 150+ games with a partner you get along with.
