August 18, 200916 yr Anibal Sanchez made his second rehab assignment start for Double-AJacksonville on Monday, and the outing lasted 3 1/3 innings againstCarolina. Sanchez is recovering from a right shoulder sprain. He exited in the fourth inning on Monday after 45 pitches, with 29 strikes. Heallowed one hit, a home run, and two runs. He struck out five andwalked one. Sanchez was relieved by Chris Leroux in the fourth inningin a game Jacksonville won. The Marlins were looking for at leasttwo Double-A rehab starts for Sanchez. If healthy, he could be in lineto join the rotation, perhaps, in Atlanta. If there was a setback, it likely could mean he will not pitch the remainder of the season. -- Joe Frisaro Via Facebook

August 18, 200916 yr God Bless. This means Anibal can pitch either game one or two of the Atl Series depending if Freddi wants to give Volstad an extra day of rest or keep him his normal spot in the rotation.
August 18, 200916 yr I know I'm gonna take some heat for saying this, but I still trust West more than a trust Sanchez in the rotation. I'd much rather see VandenHurk put into the long relief role where he belongs and have Sanchez take over his spot in the rotation. I'm hoping that in the offseason, the Marlins go after Rich Harden. If he can stay healthy, he would be a BIG help to this rotation. I know I'm dreaming, but I like this rotation JJ Nolasco Harden Volstad West I really feel that is a very good rotation. I believe we could get Harden for around 2 years $14 million (a guess on my part, as he is making $4.75 Million this year, and his numbers are below his career averages). Harden is 28, and after two years of the contract he will be 30, in the prime of his career and if he can build up his numbers get a long term contract with a new team. As for Sanchez, I would love to see him return to being close to what he was in 2006, but that is highly unrealistic. I still see him as being a nice relief option long term for us, or more likely a throw in in a deal this offseason or next offseason. At this point Sanchez may be needed with the inconsistancies we have seen with RVH and West.
August 18, 200916 yr The thing with Sanchez is...it's all hope. If he's going to come in and pitch like he's done post-rookie year, he's not an upgrade, at all. With that said, if he's half of what he was his rookie year, it could be the difference between a playoff berth, and watching from the couch, come October.

They may have been limiting him because they want him to start sooner? idk Limited pitch count is because if he left the game feeling no pain (apparently that is true) and he feels no discomfort the next couple days (wait and see) he will be the starter Saturday. This was a look and see start for him. And gave him a chance to work out the bugs on a couple pitches while giving the org an opportunity to see if he is healthy. It's the minors guys, and a rehab start. I would guess he was throwing stuff that would tax that shoulder. AA hitters should be able to pick up on that and key in on the pitches they want to hit. Don't look so closely at the final numbers.

August 18, 200916 yr I still hope he continues what he's doing in the minors until the last possible day of eligibility. A healthy Annibal Sanchez for Sept and hopefully into the playoffs would be big. I could care less about him contributing between now and the end of the month.
