September 14, 200916 yr I've been saying it, and I'll continue to say it. Freddi is the worst manger the Marlins have ever had. No he isn't. He may be bad, but he is not that bad.... Lets just say I'd bring John Boles back :headscratch:huh
September 14, 200916 yr Author He will most likely put the ball in play and beat out the DP leaving us with runners at the corners and 1 out. Most likely. That part I fully understood That makes 0 sense to me. You're basically saying you want Bonifacio to hit a GB but beat it out. So it's the same situation (first and third), but an extra out, and a different runner on first. So, pinch run with Bonifacio instead. Now he's at first. No out needed. Not exactly. I'm saying if he was the one chosen to PH then I would rather have him swing away instead of squaring up. I like our chances better that way. Either we end up with runners at the corners with one out, or a better case, a forced error and the bases loaded where a double ties the score. Best case he gets a hit. I have more confidence that he won't be hitting into a DP than I do most others on the team. He's not the one I would have put up there in that situation, but there he was. And you don't bury a guy that fast behind someone else with that type of scenario. Takes away the speed factor. And there are only a couple guys on the team I would have him PR for at 2nd in that situation because I question if they could score on a single. They weren't there. What? Unless if I read this one wrong...how does pinch-running Bonifacio at 1B "take away the speed factor?" What it does is, it guarantees you tie the game on any sort of extra base hit b/c of Bonifacio's speed. The runner at 2B is irrelevant, really, b/c that sole run means nothing.

Let me take a shot at this. Let's say there's a ball hit to RF. A fast runner would normally score from 2nd, and Boni would go to 3rd in that case. However, if it's a slow runner (let's say this ball is hit pretty hard to right-center), then that runner stays at 3rd and Boni can't take the extra base.
September 15, 200916 yr Freddi takes our starters out too soon. Something that inflates our starters' ERA is that our bullpen sucks. People like to say it is a strength, but really, it isn't. The Florida Marlins bullpen lets inherited runners score... a lot, like bottom-dwelling sucky team levels of a lot. At least we are better than the Arizona bullpen. Bullpen ERA is meaningless. 32% of inhereted runners score (league average 30%). FYI 32% inherited runners scoring is what the Nationals put up. Thankfully we have an offense where no lead is safe. Friday was just an illustration. A guy starts to cruise (happens all the time with starting pitchers) and Freddi pulls him at 89 pitchers. There was another inning in him and the game was still tied. The man hasn't been permitted to go over 100 pitches since August 14th. Your best pitchers are your starters. Let them pitch a little.
September 15, 200916 yr OK, I'm done defending this hack. He leaves a wild Lindstrom in to face Rasmus even though Meyer is ready in the pen and Rasmus has absolutely stunk against left handers this year. Just another boneheaded, dumb move.
September 15, 200916 yr I would never let this guy coach my kids at tamiami if he even gets hired there once hes fired.

Correction ony pitcher he doesnt pull is Johnson, and that costs a game too recently.

September 15, 200916 yr Ricky Nolasco was at 97 pitches, not 89. But yea, he could hav stayed in for one more inning. Also, I never knew our bullpen let that many runners score. Really suprised.

Really suprised. I think he was talking about JJ the other night. To be fair, though, I think that has to do a lot with the front office, as well, being cautious with JJ. I'm personally not a big fan of the idea, but I can't really blame Fredi for that move.

There was actually a pretty good article about pitch counts and such in ESPN if you're interested. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=kurkjian_tim&id=4359938
