Just trying to help the cause.

Strickland is looking pretty strong. He has to be next in line should we call up a new bullpen arm.

I doubt that.

Fredi gave a comment the other day along the lines of "Don't worry, Jose Veras will be back."

It was a de facto "he's our guy" remark. We all know what that means.

I highly doubt we will see Veras again in a Marlins uniform.

Fredi should be fired on the spot if he brings him back.

That wouldn't stun me. I meat my comment as more of my opinion of what we should do. He's continued to produce. Again, I'd be angry if they brought back Veras, but not stunned.

Stanton has fallen off quite a bit since he hot start, but when it comes to Stanton, I'm not really worried about that average dipping (unless it gets under .255), what I care to see is he has kept the strikeouts down from last season, his walk totals seem to be on the rise, and he is still a power phenom.

Also, this may seem like an odd question, but why was Hunter Jones pitching 5 innings anyway?

I've also gotta give props to Skippy. He may have lost his status as a can't miss prospect, but at least he's fighting back after a terrible start to his minor league career. Hopefully he continues to get better as the season goes along.

AAA staff is heavily depleted with West and Miller hurt, and Hensley making the team as a long reliever.

They are desperate for innings in AAA right now which is why Hunter is starting. I wouldn't read into it to much.

Thanks. That makes sense. Sucks for Jones, he's being set up to fail right now, which isn't fair to him.

Logan hasn't played for 3 straight days, I think. Anybody know why?

Stanton hit another bomb tonight and had a walk.

The Matt Dominguez stinkfest continues. I realize he's actually fairly young for his level, but he was bumped out of A ball when he had only had a single month of decent offensive production. Stanton being bumped up quickly was far more understandable, as he was an absolutely dominant player in 2008 and has the lessons to learn in the mid-minors. Dominguez isn't on that level, and I worry that the FO is trying to rush him towards the majors to the detriment of his long-term potential.

I disagree with your analysis on Jupiter. His park factors for that level were very good. The Marlins were "a bit" aggressive, but it's only by a month or two and not something where you can point your finger and say "this is what ruined him." Like you said, he is at least 1 year young for his age. He can spend all this year and all next year in AA, then all of 2012 in AAA, and we're still in good shape. Adrian Gonzalez had a .781 OPS in AA as a 20 year old, then as a 21 year old (not doing the math, guesstimating) something like a .700 OPS across AA/AAA. He turned out ok. Sometimes, you just have to challenge the guy and see what happens. Dominguez was basically done with A+ ball. If it takes him 2+ years to master AA, so be it.

I will officially be worried June 2011 if he is still not hitting. But right now, not so much.

I assume their reason for being aggressive is what will be our 3b problem very soon. They're trying their best to prepare him ASAP, with the AA call up last year, followed by AFL.

I realize that and it's what worries me. When it comes to prospects, you just can't force things. They have to come up on their time table, not on the table of the team's needs. If the Fo did not see the need to have a new in-house 3B option in the majors pretty soon, there is absolutely no that they push a guy like Dominguez so quickly.

I honestly wonder if the reason he's doing so bad now is with someone trying to tweak him.

Ever since his AA call up last year, he's been swinging at less pitches. He's still making contact at about the same rate, and his rate of striking out while swinging is a bit down, but he strikes out looking a lot more (Which means, even though he's less aggressive, he's actually striking out at a higher rate) and walking a lot more. But it's also at the cost of line drives and power. After having average LD rates in Greensboro and Jupiter, it was 10% in jax last year (.219 BABIP) and just 8% this year (.216 BABIP). And his power numbers have gone down, especially this year where he only has two extra base hits (both doubles).

I mean, if a guy can learn patience while still being able to hit the ball with authority, awesome. And like Lou said, Dominguez is young, if we can go through the growing pains so that Dominguez can start walking while hitting for power and being able to turn into a Scott Rolen instead of an Adrian Beltre, awesome.

But you have to wonder how much longer until you say the experiment didn't work, tell him to go back to his old approach of smashing faces.

(Could also just be that he's completely over powered by the pitchers in AA that he's not even trying to swing)

Stanton 4/26

4 for 4 with a double, single, and two jacks.

Don't forget the walk and zero strickouts.
