Actually I am happy with our rotation . Everyone is pitching faily well right now If it aint broke don't fix it! Consistency will come. I just love everyone's composure out there... Now the BP gives me hives!

I just think that it will be the weaker link compared to the bullpen. Just my opinion.
April 27, 201014 yr Given the history of the FO, they would first try to replace, IF NEEDED, from within.

Yah our bullpen isn't very good, if we make any moves it will be moving someone like a RVH for a bullpen piece. Starting pitching will be solved from within. That would make absolutely no sense at all. While we all hope RVH prospers as a starter, there is a widely held consensus around here that if worst comes to the worst, RVH would make a pretty nice, above average reliever.

April 28, 201014 yr Anibal pitched very well tonight. His ERA is 4.32. I would take that if he stays healthy all year and gives us 30 starts. Not bad for a fifth starter. I am also confident he can pitch even better.
April 28, 201014 yr Well the starting pitchers have pitched ok this year so far. I would be happier with bullpen help I just have no confidence most of the time when the pen is called in. We need some BP help before SP help.
April 28, 201014 yr Author I'm confident the bullpen will turn it around. Reason I say this is because a lot of the struggles have been out of the ordinary. Meyer didn't pitch well at all. Now it looks as if he is hurt. Was he covering that up? I think with Sanches back he's going to come around, the hopper will be consistent (granted he struggled at times last night), and Leo looks very good. I think Hensley needs to get back to his success in spring training.

So you're confident in a bullpen that's been (for the most part) a weak spot thus far, but you want to shake up a rotation that (for the most part) has held their own? I don't believe that this FO would actually make a move for a solid starter. Their general track record is more along the lines of unloading the proven guys (who are about to make their big pay days) for young prospects with high upside. Occassionally, you will see moves for guys like Nate Robertson, Nick Johnson, or Ross Gload, but none of them were near the "splash" that most fans are usually clamoring for. Honestly, I think we've got a pretty solid starting rotation that just needs to work on consistency.
April 28, 201014 yr I think its pretty safe to say that RVH is next in line if anyone gets hurt or falters too long in the rotation.

You totally forgot to mention that one of the guys that was thrown out at the plate only got a chance to try and score because there was an error. If that play is handled properly, no play at the plate. Also, why do people say stuff like this? Throwing people out at the plate is part of the game. It's the defense's job to make sure that anyone that tries to score when they really shouldn't gets thrown out.
April 29, 201014 yr I actually like almost everyone in our bullpen right now. That's what's weird. Leo has been awesome. Sanches should be at least average. Hensley has looked really good. Badenhop looks strong in middle relief, as well. Leroux has really good stuff, despite giving up a HR today. He's a fine #6/#7 RP. Pinto is Pinto. Wood is alright. And JJ and Ricky are really good, Anibal is fine as a #4 type, if not a #3. Volstad and Robertson are having a rough go, but they are reasonable #5's. So basically, we have a good #1,2,4, and 5, but our "#3" is a #5, also. And we can really hit. Our defense is kinda crappy though. But still, I have to feel like this team should be better......I can't put my finger on what's up.

I'd agree with that, I'm really liking Leroux's stuff in the last couple of appearances. In the 3rd game of the San Diego series, he struck out... I believe it was Tony Gwynn Jr. with a nasty fastball 94 MPH that had amazing movement on it. I believe he also throws a changeup at around 85 MPH that looks pretty good. I think the bullpen could possibly work out okay for us this season, but who knows...
April 29, 201014 yr I actually like almost everyone in our bullpen right now. I agree with this. So why do I still feel like we're going to win 75 games? :confused
April 29, 201014 yr I'm still not confident that this pen is going to be able to perform when we really need them. I could be wrong, but there are a lot of question marks.

Thats not a "rough go". With any luck he could be 3-1 instead of 1-2. Hes a solid #3

I hate to be that guy but sometimes...ugh...sometimes it's the little things. I just threw up in my mouth a little.
April 29, 201014 yr Despite the players' best efforts and fans' exhortations, baseball remains a random game. ANYTHING can happen over 10-20 games, the better teams only make themselves apparent over 162 and even a fair bit of that is random luck. And, then there's Pittsburgh, which has managed to be uniformly bad for the better part of two decades. :lol Lighten up, ANYONE could rather easily be Baltimore with 4 wins or Atlanta with 8 straight losses were it not for a few random events in the first ~10% of the season.
