When the Marlins acquired Jose Ceda for Kevin Gregg two off-seasons ago, Admin Beinfest and company envisioned the hard-throwing Dominican righty to be a key addition to the back end of the Florida Marlins already flame throwing bullpen. Their envisions could still happen, just not as soon as they though. Ceda has yet to throw a pitch for the Marlins organization after undergoing shoulder surgery last season and has been stuck in extended spring training to start off the 2010 campaign. Ceda's Marlins debut could possibly be tonight as he has been assigned to Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League from the Jacksonville Suns 7-day disabled list.

Expect Ceda to spend a little time in Greensboro before being moved to High-A Jupiter as he is on a slow recovery from shoulder surgery. It is unknown where Ceda will finish the year but he could make it back to Double-A Jacksonville before it's all said and done.

Thats one thing i dislike about Greensboro, You never really know who is going to be starting well in advance.

Been hitting 95 in A+ and was just promoted to AA.

 

I think he's gonna get a month down there, and if he kills people he might get the call.

 

Who do we see first, Marinez or Ceda?

Who ever is more dominant in Double A will get called up, obviously. If I had to choose one right now, though, I'd pick Ceda.

As nny pointed out on the other board, Ceda is already on the 40 man, so odds are in his favor.

He's pitched 7 professional innings in two years. I can't see him making it to the show that fast.

 

Although you have to start getting pretty damn excited if he is all the way back, because him, Marinez, Jennings, Sanabia, and let's say Tucker stops being an asshole, start turning the short and long term bullpen situation around very fast.

As mentioned in the minor league roundup, Tucker pitched for the GCL Marlins on Thursday. He is getting back into playing shape.

Ceda pitched well last night and even picked up the win.

 

2 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts. Pitched a scoreless inning Wednesday also.

So far on the year 11 innings, 3.27 era, 1.00 whip, 10/2 K/BB, and 2 HR allowed (which we'll give a pass for now).

 

Pretty impressive after a year and a half off. I'm very optimistic about Marinez, Ceda, and Jennings turning into big time RP prospects.

I've liked the improvement he has made in the control department, specially since hes been out for a year. We could see Ceda in the majors this year if we happen to make a run in the division.

Hopefully he makes it up here this year because we need the help and we need a power throwing righty with control, not jose veras.

I also think Wade Korpi could be a good LOOGY.

another scorelss inning tonight from Ceda. 2 k's no hits and 13 strikes out of 20 pitches. If he keeps this up i will be thrilled. Unfortunately the future cant come fast enough bullpen wise.
