Hanley Ramirez needs to be moved from the three hole

Featured Replies

I missed the game today- how did Hanley hit with RISP today?

Apparently you've missed all of last season, too.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hanley has 17 RBI in the 15 games since this thread, and his OPS with RISP has jumped .100 since this thread was started. He had an opposite field sac fly tonight to score a run.

He is also hitting almost 50 points higher with runners on than with the bases empty this year.

So, Bump.

It's funny, as soon as Sirspud stopped posting smart comments about Hanley, I knew Hanley came out of his RISP slump.

I stopped criticizing when he started performing. That doesn't change the fact that at the time, his struggles with RISP were hurting this team.

His struggles were absolutely hurting the team. Good thing he summoned up the moral fiber to remember how to hit with RISP. Must've been temporary amnesia.

I think Cantu needs to be removed from the four hole. Stick Uggla in there.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. This team hasn't really ever practiced much lineup flexibility.

I agree with both points.

Yep

Which would then remove him from the four hole.

Such a shame after the good start Cantu had.

No need to touch any part of the top of the order. C.C. and Gaby have gotten better at getting on base as the season progressed and Hanley has gotten better at driving them in.

The 4-8 spots could be switched around more though.

Right now I'd put Uggla batting cleanup, Cody 5th and Cantu 6th with Ronnie following 7th and Stanton 8th.

Or selective amnesia because Fredi was the manager.

Well, remember, everything was Fredi's fault. I for one still can't believe that Fredi told Beinfest there was no need to have a bullpen this year. No wonder he got fired.

Did we not have a bullpen last year and the year before?

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what the difference between last year's bullpen (Which was good) and this year's is.

Dan Meyer and Burke Badenhop sucking.

Kiko Calero.

The biggest problem I can see is that when we started the season, we just didn't have a single rock we could count on for stability. Dan Meyer could have been but he just couldn't get it going. When he went bad, everyone in the bullpen had to roles they weren't comfortable and weren't effective in. Badenhop, for example, was moved to a setup role where he got out of whack and found himself in AAA. Once Hensley stepped in and grabbed the 8th inning role, things started to really fall into place. But I can't blame the manager for not having a back of the bullpen to build around. When nobody has a role, it is chaos. Fredi tried to use everyone he had in that setup role, nobody besides Hensley on this team at that point was worth the setup role and they pitched like it.

Our bullpen is actually not looking that bad right now. Hensley is doing really well as a setup guy, Sanches is alright, and Veres is actually looking like he has the best stuff out of all 3 now that he has gotten things worked out. But I think part of Veres becoming effective is him embracing the change-up. which is an organizational staple to teach that Veres may have needed the AAA time to really figure out.
