The only instances I can think of (and I could just be drawing a blank on something) were in the off-season involving an external (non-baseball) event. There may have been some minor move(s), or what was a minor move at the time, but I can't remember since this became a competitive team (2003 on) that we traded anyone of importance to the Mets or anyone else in our division mid-season.

We've also made some minor deals with the Mets. I remember we traded Jason Vargas, who had already pitched in the big leagues (although not very good) for Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom (who turned into a quality reliever, for the most part).

I think it depends on the situation (like if the Marlins think they are in competition). Unloading Delgado and LoDuca during a "market correction" is different than giving a division rival a needed outfielder while both teams are in competition.

 

If the Marlins are definitely throwing in the towel this season, it might be appropriate.

Any trade of Cody to the Braves is a season-quitting move. We would be doing it for next season and beyond.

It does send a message to the team (not to mention fans) that "you're playing for nothing so try to be to the park on time but if you aren't no big deal" since you'll be facing those same Atlanta Braves 12 more times this season including three games the last week of September. It isn't about Ross as much as it's about the perception it fosters.

Cody isn't worth enough to compensate the Marlins for the problems making that move brings with it.

 

You aren't getting anything approaching a phenom, you aren't getting any everyday majorleauger that can improve the team now which is the avowed goal of the FO according to Admin Beinfest (this team as configured isn't doing it + no salary dump), you aren't getting an almost ready prospect that slotted into next season's roster, all you do is give naysayers something to point fingers at and alienate the loyal fanbase who by and large adore Cody. You can trade him to 20+ other clubs and not cause yourself the aggravation you will by trading him within the division and to the Braves especially, not to mention the Braves are not about to offer their divisional competitor anything ****that might cost**** their own team a shot at the division their leading. It's a loser move and it won't happen.

I'm going to have to agree with this. With the new stadium looming, the Marlins FO needs to be very cognizant of fan opinion right now, for better or for worse.

Trading Cody is throwing in the towel fo this year. The perception is reality. If you trade him get the best deal possible no matter if its within the division.

Although it will be good to see Gonzalez more often because of his past ties with the Marlins, I hate that he will be in the division against us. He makes a good half of a DP team.

Yeah a ground ball up the middle with Gonzalez and a decent 2nd Baseman, in this case an above average fielder in Prado, with a man on 1st is a guaranteed double play or at least a force at 2 with the case of a speed runner.

Braves have a lot of good near MLB ready RP prospects like Mike Minor and Craig Kimbrel and a really good bullpen already. We could probably get at least one of those guys plus a C type for Cody and really upgrade the pen.
