This is the Worst Bullpen in Marlins History

Featured Replies

I think the pen was worse in 2004. That was the year where everyone sucked outside of Armando Benitez. I remember the game in Philadelphia where Koch was close to walking in a run and McKeon pulled him in the middle of the batter for Benitez who got the out and the four out save.

The Marlins went out and got Mota before the deadline, who was a bit of a letdown.

I really think we need this kind of deadline deal ASAP... at the very least it would keep us "in contention" or close enough that if we did make a Rockies-style miracle run, it could still get us in the playoffs. We may not be a playoff-caliber team yet, but I think if we just made a few tweaks we could at least be a viable outside shot. We sure as hell are too talented to be considered dead yet.

i would even go for an aaron heilman and add a lefty reliever and then call up ceda and west. 1 thing is for sure, this just can not continue.

just kidding. just checked heilman's stats and he looks like the right renyel pinto. i really wish we pulled the trigger on the matt thornton trade from the white sox when they were out of it.

I have been a Marlins fan from season 1, I didn't go to the first game in Joe Robbie Staduim but I did go to the 2nd...I can sincerely say I never saw a worse bullpen in a Marlins uniform ever, We have had some bad teams but our bullpens were always fairly strong. We always had young arms that were able to get batters out, even if it were the Yorkis Perez of the world. In our history we could generally count on having young strong arms. This season has been an abomination it's actually gotten worse than last year. The good news last night is that the bullpen didn't have another BS, they just flat out lost the Game! This team is at .500 in spite of its BP We could have 60 wins by now easily . If I were Beinfest i would blow up the BP and start new Have Helmsley as the close or something like that. We are going nowhere with this Bullpen and it is getting worse

This might actually be the worst post on this board in a long, long time. At least the most misinformed.

When you actually lead the Majors in BS it is hard to justify having a better BP than any other team If you think I am misinformed what do you base it on and i wont roll my eyes on you

The pen is not getting better I would say we are having some isolated performances that are better but every night is a roller coaster ride there isnt one dependable reliever except maybe Hemsley I have spoken before that Nunez most often than not seems to struggle and appears to lack confidence in the closer role . Everyone else just makes you wanna pluck your eyes out when they pitch . 1-2-3 inning are so rare amongst our relievers When they have holds most of the times its after havent put on several baserunners

Erick if you like this BP you can have it!!

It is a shame because this season would be a whole different story otherwise

It's uninformed because, as has been said, this isn't even the worst bullpen in the big leagues this year.

I never said I liked the bullpen. The bullpen is not good.

I will say though that...

1. It's Hensley, not Hemsley.

2. Leo Nunez is the best reliever on the team. It's quite ironic that you complain about the closer's role when Leo Nunez has been one of the few consistently good things out of the bullpen this year. The guy has been the best closer we've had, since the fluke that was Todd Jones in 2005. I'm glad he's proving all the people who believe in the whole "he doesn't have the mindset to close" wrong. It's always been a stupid theory because you don't get to the big leagues without being strong mentally.

Also, off the top of my head, the 2006 bullpen was worse than this one. Another reason why your thread is misinformed. We've had some terrible bullpens in the past; I don't know how you don't remember them, being such a long-term fan.

Yeah this bullpen if definitely worse then the studs we had in the 1999 season....

Definitely.

Is it true? The Marlins lead the league in bullsh*t?

wasnt that terrible until the last few sentences.

Yeah, because anything could be worse than last year considering last year was really, really good.

But I think this was all bound to happen sooner or later. Going with unreliable arms will serve its title eventually. If you are playing on odds you wont win every time, it's actually been surprising that we've been able to put together bullpens for so long.

That's how I feel. You keep on rolling the dice, eventually you are going to come up snake eyes.

I don't think this bullpen has been the worse ever. I remember a lot of hairpulling over the years and this season doesn't seem like all that different.

Will be interesting to see if the FO philosophy changes this off-season and we go after some proven bullpen help/talent.

This thread seems oddly familiar...

This is just proof that this happens every year to at last 75% of the league. Exceptional bullpens are hard to come by, its too many moving parts that need to come together at once. Having a shaky pen isnt anything new. And ours this year seriously could be worse. And for whatever its worth, they're much better these days. Deal with it.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, though; 22 ER in the last 27.2 innings...not exactly "better these days."

The past week has been rough but since Edwin took over, they've been better overall. I thought that was already established.
