E CaT PanTHer
They seem like very similar hitters. Both hit for tremendous power, but strikeout a ton. I see Stanton averaging 35 homers, 90 RBI's, with a .260 average with about 150 strikeouts per season. Would you guys be content with those numbers from Stanton? E CaT PanTHer
You realize you are forecasting the future of a TWENTY year old don't you? true, but I'm not saying Stanton is going to have a .230 career average, which he's averaging right now. I'm saying it'll be around .260, with a couple of season hitting .270, .280, a couple hitting .250, .260. The strikeouts will always be there, just given the type of player Stanton is. As for the homers and RBI's, I think that's pretty accurate for a .260 hitter.

mystikol87
His OBP and SLG are far more important than his average.

He has a track record of struggling at 1st with tons of K's in every level he's been in then coming back and taking the league by storm. I expect nothing less from Mike next season and if he's not a Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn like hitter he's considered a bust.
bobbob1313
.260/.344/.507 with peak years around .920 OPS with 10 SBs and really cool defense? I really don't think that's a big dissapointment. Obviously, you hope he plays longer and with his skill set you would expect his career not to fall off a cliff quite so quickly, but Richie Sexson was a pretty good hitter. bobbob1313
And if he puts up an .851 OPS for his career, will you be disappointed, given everything else he brings to the table?
SixYearItch
I wouldn't project Mike at age 20, not in his rookie season with the peak and valley performance we're seeing. Heck, right now he looks like Dave Kingman. It was exciting though just to get a glimpse of what his high end looks like..because for a good three weeks when he bought his batting average to over 280 with the prodigous HR's we saw it. With Mike, patience patience patience please.

That's ridiculous. Well not considered a bust if he can throw up production like 20+ HR and 80+ RBI with a good amount of Stolen Bases and good defense but I surely expect more. EricWiener
Or we could look at his OPS+ and pretend that he is going to be Miguel Cabrera
E CaT PanTHer
How is an average per season of .260, 35 homers, 90 RBI's considered a bust by any stretch of the imagination? Factor that over lets say a 15 year career, that's .260 with 525 HR's, 1350 RBI's, Those are numbers that will get you in the hall of fame, given Stanton's whole career would be played in the post steroid era. All I'm trying to say is Stanton will never have a high average or high on base percentage. Even though he's a rookie, stretches like 1-30 with 15k's, or 0-27 with 18k's are pretty awful stretches, rookie or not. You haven't seen Gaby go through a stretch like that, or Coghlan last year, or Miguel in 2003, or Hanley his rookie year. Stanton will be a bona fide perennial power hitter in this league for the next 15 years, but that's about it.
EricWiener
Actually, at 20 years old, there is not way to know if he won't have a strong batting average (and thus a good OBP). I would expect that he will strike out a lot, but the walks might come as he becomes more dangerous and more experienced.
MrMarlinPride
I forgot sarcasm doesn't fly well over the internet... I wouldn't mind at all if he turns into Sexson but I expect a lot more especially the next two seasons while he should be adjusted well to the league.
