Zack Greinke on the block?

Featured Replies

I've been hearing rumors that he's available. I'm sure every team in baseball would have an interest. Buster Olney had an ESPN Insider article up today where he listed the 10 teams he thought had the prospects to acquire Greinke. Who has Insider and can tell us the teams?

They'd probably want pitching back or at least a starter to replace him.

I'd love to get him but doubt we do unless we give up Ricky or Anibal and Gaby or Lomo.

I think I would give up Ricky and Gaby for Greinke in a heartbeat

JJ, Greinke, Sanchez, Volstad, Sanabia

Hell yes.

we're on the not gonna happen list in that article

The Florida Marlins. They'd be paying about $20 million and then $26 million to Josh Johnson and Greinke in the next couple of years if they made a deal. That's not really their style.

even if we did have the money, what prospects do we have? gaby and ricky ain't getting us last years cy young winner.

And then you woke up.

This is not happening. If Grienke's getting traded, KC is going to be getting at least a couple of very good prospects in return.

No, they'd want top 10 prospects in return. Like Mike Stanton, which is not going to happen.

Yeah any package from us for Greinke would have to include Stanton, and I don't see us giving up Stanton even for a stud like Greinke. I'd be interested in know who the ten teams are though, my guess is Texas has the best shot at nailing him and since they'd more then likely lose Cliff Lee after this year would at least try to make a move.

Not sure how the historical problems he's had like depression or social anxiety would impact his future, but I heard he was very picky about where he plays.

Well at the same time he did have a bad year last year. None the less, I doubt it would happen. I'd do that in a heartbeat, but I'm sure they dont want Nolasco.

Really you dont think so? He had a steep drop off from the season before. As opposed to what he'd done a year before, he was bad. Not saying that I expect a duplication of the numbers two years ago, but he did give up about double the runs last year.

This year. Last year he won the Cy Young.

Last year he was great.

This past year he had a dropoff, but he wasn't bad.

He was playing for a horrible team in the American League, and put up a respectable 4.17 ERA, with very good peripherals in 220 innings. That's not a bad year.

Just for comparison I had a look at the contracts of JJ and Greinke - surprised to see that JJ is going to make $6m less in 2011, however they earn virtually the same in 2012.

This year. Last year he won the Cy Young.

I dont know about you but "this year" has yet to begin. "Last year" was the most recent season - which has finished. Two seasons ago he won the Cy Young.

For the love of god please do not sit here and debate this, because like many things it will go nowhere. That's what I intended by it.

Debate this we will.

You say this year has yet to begin. I say this year has yet to end. Correct me if I'm wrong but the playoffs of the 2010 season are still ongoing. That is this year :thumbup

Ugh, time to run circles.

Correct me if I'm wrong but both the Kansas City Royals and the Florida Marlins (and more importantly Zack Grienke's) season ended at the end of the regular season because none of them qualified for the post season. We're in the off-season.

This year. Last year he won the Cy Young.

I'm not getting into an argument because you are arguably the most brain-numbingly-stubborn person on MB, but this year is this year, last year is last year. You didn't say season, you said year. We're in 2010, last year was 2009.

Also, and I'm going to hate myself for this, but we're not in the offseason. All our players who are signed for the 2010 season are still under contract and we can't talk to any players who are under contract with other teams. We might as well be since we're not playing anymore, but we're not.

And yeah, he had an off-year this year.

You know, the same for you my friend. Blab on all you'd like about a specific single word in my sentence. The most important thing is here that it's quite f***ing obvious what I was trying to say since apparently we all knew of the 2.00 ERA vs. the 4.00 ERA, and there was absolutely no reason to quote me and pretend like a smart ass that it wasnt clear.

Last year, last season, if it's common sense that in 2009 he won the Cy Young, why would I say he had a bad year?

For god sakes, comment on me being stubborn but you're both being a pair of smart ass f***s right now looking for an argument. Just sayin.

off-sea·son (also off·sea·son or off sea·son)

• n. a time of year when a particular activity, typically a sport, is not engaged in:

Yeah sorry, it's the offseason for both of those teams.

This year. Last year he won the Cy Young.

I don't know, you're weird.

It's not about syntax, it's about you. I'm giving you a hard time because, unlike a regular person who would just say "whoops, I meant last season" you had to go on with "I don't know about you but blah blah blah." I corrected you the first time because I honestly thought you had thought more time passed than did.

Oh, and no, it's not the offseason. Offseason in baseball has a specific meaning and it starts five days after the final game of the World Series. It might as well be, it's fine to say it is, but stop defending yourself by trying to prove how wrong I was just because it's basically the offseason. I wasn't wrong. It's not.

I'm not about to sit there and say 'whoops, I meant last season' because quite honestly I dont even notice the difference in my own writing between 'season' and 'year'. It's not like it's not clear, your just reading my post inside out looking for something to correct. You're the one being the smart ass, and you still are in this post. Either you're being a smart ass, or you think I'm an idiot apparently because something that's obvious enough it smacks you in the face... needs correction.

I dont give a rats ass what you define as the offseason. You're the one correcting me, left and right. I'm not going and nitpicking through all of your posts, you're the one who cant help but have to correct something. Good lord, the dictionary lies now doesn't it? I never for once tried to 'prove how wrong you were'. You're the one who corrected me. You told me that I was wrong. I defended myself. With factual evidence. A team who doesnt qualify for the playoffs enters the offseason earlier. I'm not going to sit here and debate this garbage. Yeah, I'm going to sit here and be stubborn. And you're going to sit there and insist upon being right with everything.

Point is there's no reason to sit there and correct that. There's no reason to claim that it's not the offseason. You're just being a smart ass. Hah! According to the technical league-wide definition, it's 5 days after you moron! That's all I hear.
