Actually, Scott Cousins has been awesome defensively. Hence the reason why he has a positive WAR this year according to fangraphs, despite not hitting.

And Murphy's an above average defender, as well. He was also hurt, hence the reason why he probably didn't hit at all. He had a .133 .BABIP. Certainly wasn't going to keep a .103/.186/.128 all year had he stayed healthy.

Cousins is a 0 on defense. Not sure how he has a positive WAR exactly but whatever. And Murphy is a career -6 at his most frequently played position. Not sure how that makes him an above average defender.

UZR has them both being above average this year. UZR loves Cousins early on.

Also, regardless of the early #'s, these two guys are a lot better than Helms defensively, without question.

Cousins arm is awesome, and Murphy was once a SS, so he clearly has the range to play either. His arm isn't bad at all, either.

If you give these guys starting jobs, Helms would end up being the worst of the three, easily.

Yeah, Murphy was once an SS. A terrible one. He was also a bad 2B. He's been good so far at 3B but who knows if that lasts. Its only been 245 innings.

Fact is Helms is an old vet at the end of his road who is being asked to hit lefties. And he does a good job at it. It was a bad AB. It happens.

Ok, I was exaggerating about the worst pitchers in the league, still pissed about the loss and frustrated knowing that cheapo FO will probably do nothing to fix these areas. But I am worried that the offense is going to cool off a bit and the losses will begin to stack up.

That cheapo FO who raised payroll $20 mil since 2009 and over $40 mil since 2006. That one.

Hurricane 2.0

I think it may be him trying to build a new reputation. And failing.

I am not sure what you're trying to imply here, if you are somehow taking my opinions personally on an open forum I apologize.

Okay.. enough about Helms. We all know he sucks and he had a terrible AB tonight. While its easy to jump on him, Coglan, Stanton and Omar did not have good games. Hot/Cold Coghlan and Stanton is very frustrating.

Stanton wins the game tonight in some stadiums...:(

Buck also cost us a run with his idiocy on the bases.

So we have hit our first bump in the road and since I have calmed down, I think you all should too.

We are 8 games over .500 but of course there is always something to b**** about.

Thank God were not 30-0, I wouldn't know what to do but twiddle my thumbs.

Yeah, a 2 game losing streak. Oh the horror.

You read sarcasm well.

The post wasn't really directed at him. More like the people who fret about every goddamn loss.

A guy who's only skill is hitting lefties at an inconsistent rate does not belong in the big leagues.

I'm going to guess there were some mixed signals on that. Edwin needs to scrap the suicide squeeze from his playbook for good

A guy who's only skill is hitting lefties at an inconsistent rate does not belong in the big leagues.

It hasn't been an inconsistent rate though. He had an off year in 09 but before then and since then, he's been fantastic at his job.

The point is we have no clutch hitter right now.

I missed LoMo and 2007 Hanley.

Gaby has been stellar this year!? But I would agree if Hanley was on his game we would most likely be in first place.

.791 .OPS in '07

.724 .OPS in '08

.679 .OPS in '09

Considering it's all he does well, there's nothing special about his splits over the years, either.

So basically, all there is to be excited about is his .942 .OPS against lefties last year in the small sample of 88 plate appearances. And his #'s against lefties are .BABIP inflated/unsustainable, as well. Whoopty-doo.

So he's the worst player in the league for doing the job we're asking of him? That's like saying a pitcher is bad for being a bad hitter. His OBP every year but 09 against lefties has been above average. You can't take it away from him, dude. The guy hits lefties well.

Also, our bench sucks. There's pretty much no one on the bench you can be confident in pinch hitting. Cousins sucks. Helms sucks. Murphy sucks. Peterson sucks. Hayes sucks.

Good luck with that pile of trash.

Hell, this team would be in deep trouble without Bonifacio.

Meanwhile, Boni continues to show an improved patience at the plate and Dobbs continues to show a great ability to go oppo. While they are most likely to come back to earth, it will be hard to justify sending one of them to the bench when LoMo comes back.

Hayes has hit well in limited time this year and he's probably our best catching arm. But whatever. I do think Joe Thurston should be on the team over Petersen and Oscar Salazar over Murphy, though.

Yeah he's hit well in like three games. Wow. That's not gonna last and you know it.

I think its safe to say that we are not playing very well right now..... Our losses have been very Ugly lately and it's concerning.

I had to watch that on gameday on my phone and I really struggled holding in my rage.

I dont care how many we won that we should have lost. What happened tonight was horrid and is starting to feel a lot like past years.

Figuring in Hayes to our bench is dumb. He'll never get PH ABs and his only job is too back up Buck... and so far he has done a good job of doing that. So to say he "sucks" is pretty weak and immature

Good luck with him keeping his .BABIP #'s against lefties is all I'm saying. He had a .379 .BABIP against lefties last year. He's not really a walks machine; once his fortune reverts back to normal he won't even be great at his "skill," anymore.

Looking at it, with Boni starting, I really have no idea why Joe Thurston isn't on this team right now. He's hitting in the minors and can play all three outfield spots, 2B, and 3B.

You always say this, as if any loss ever looks pretty.

From what I heard on the radio the strike zone was sh*tty. This true?

Also, F wes helms. He is so useless. I wonder if any team would take him for a dollar....

IT

WAS

ONE

BAD

AB!

Seriously, guys, just because it happened at the end of the game, its all you remember? Buck made a terrible baserunning mistake because he didn't listen to his coach and was too stupid to call a timeout to get the right call, Dunn wasn't good at all tonight, and Coghlan and Boni terribly misplayed a ball that led to a run.

Remember all of that?

And yes, the strike zone was terribly awful and inconsistent as hell. Nats got every borderline call and we got none.
