May 14, 201115 yr Volstad is a #5 starter on a pretty good staff. We just need a #4 instead of a #6. He's a #5 starter on a very good staff, as far as I'm concerned. He has a 4.37 FIP and 3.98 xFIP. He seems to have HR issues, but even if you discount the latter, the former doesn't look bad at all.

Vazquez is at the end of his career, has no fastball, and has no control. if we had the option i'd say put Sanabia in vazquez's spot in the rotation.
May 14, 201115 yr I went to the game today in DC. Crumby weather, but it held up and didn't ever get unbearable. My family, in from Miami, was complaining about the cold, but it prob never got below 65. Voted for Sanchez because he really dominated the whole time he was out there. Pitchers duel, overall. Anibal looked awesome, and besides the Werth double, no Nat ever hit any of his pitches very well today. Although Nunez now leads the league in saves, he hardly dominated today. Still not convinced he is anything special, but I'm definitely starting to get excited about Anibal. Great stuff today and he has been pretty consistent so far this season. HanRam still looking weak at the plate. Great to see LoMo back but what the hell was he doing getting caught stealing before Stanton's HR? Was that a busted hit-and-run? Great day at the park, and great to see the Fish get another W, and another series. No reason to drop games to those clowns, especially when Zimmerman isn't playing. Also, really weak crowd today with the questionable weather.
May 15, 201115 yr Was at the first two games, was a stellar pitching performance by Anibal and then Stanton is getting locked on. Stanton and Cogs didn't acknowledge the fans and Stanton doesn't seem to sign autographs either he won't even look at the fans really, he is all business. Gaby waved but no autographs. Others signees most of which I ignored because I didn't want there autographs I will admit I wanted Dobbs but he stopped signing a few short of me and I was too close to the dugout to get to Hanley so he only signed like 3 balls and left., other signees included: Badenhop (1) lol, Dobbs (10), Helms (5), Boni (15), LoMo (5), Cousins (15) and Hanley (3) (for that small section on the 3rd base line Hanleys signing spot) Happy we already have the series win and a sweep but be nice but I won't expect it seeing the pitching match up, I suppose anything can happen any day though! Go Fish! P.S. I expect to get at least 1 more auto tonight for a good collection, already have LoMo's who picked up right where he left off, BP was canceled and will probably be canceled tomorrow as well.
May 15, 201115 yr It's funny that Stanton doesn't sign autographs, and he's "all business." If that was Hanley, he'd be an "asshole." (not a knock on you GFMGM, it's just how they're viewed)
May 15, 201115 yr When I was in DC Alfredo Amezaga waived to all of us and Frank Forte came and we were on at the end of the show with a broom (not mine or my party's, but I was still on cam with Frank Forte!).

May 15, 201115 yr By the way, I kinda laughed and felt sorry for Leo, at the same time, in the 9th. When LoMo caught the final out, he just looked up to the sky and seemed to shout: "Gracias, Dios mio." His hilarious reactions when he gets a save occasionally make-up for the occasional heart attacks he gives to fans, while on the mound.
May 15, 201115 yr Both offenses were shut down today. Indeed, thankfully Mike Stanton's line drive base hits have the ability to be HRs. Rigglemen said off the bat he thought it had the trajectory of a single hahaha. One of the Nats commentators said that they had never seen a ball reach that part of the park before, not even on the bounce. I heard that on Mlb.tv too, yesterday he also said that he had never seen such a long home run ball hit so hard and get out so fast, the commentators were saying that our line-up is very good, Nats commentators giving the Marlins alot of Love.
May 15, 201115 yr P.S. I expect to get at least 1 more auto tonight for a good collection, already have LoMo's who picked up right where he left off, BP was canceled and will probably be canceled tomorrow as well. On the plus side, unlike SAT, it won't be "Pups at the Park" day SUN!! Couldnt help but laugh at the concept of someone stepping in a dawgie pile, or worse... the ball rolling thru it!

(not a knock on you GFMGM, it's just how they're viewed) Hanley being viewed as an asshole does not begin at end on this msg board... and I really think it's more Hanley's fault than anyone else's. Stanton is young enough to still get the benefit of the doubt.
May 15, 201115 yr Hanley's cocky. That doesn't make him an asshole. There's a big difference. Although being cocky will totally make it seem like you're an asshole.
May 15, 201115 yr Hanley's cocky. That doesn't make him an asshole. There's a big difference. Although being cocky will totally make it seem like you're an asshole. I don't really know him, but I think his issues go beyond cockiness. Language barrier is def an problem, for one. I think he has maturity concerns, as well. Considering his abilities, he really seems like a very weak leader/example, on a team that's generally young and lacking for that kind of presence. The lack of leadership really may be a pretty big issue. His contract makes him incredibly attractive, but particularly to a team where he could function as a complimentary star. For a team like the Fish, where he's clearly the marquee player, and is going to naturally create a strong impression on the locker room. This naturallycauses his value to diminish for us, even if it's marginal. These concens, more than anything, make me think about what kind of return we could get on a trade. I wore his jersey to the game today, and I'd love to continue to give him the benefit of the doubt, but every story I hear and vibe I get from the guy raises such questions. Oh, and he can't hit for s*** this year...
May 15, 201115 yr Let's not overlook yet another great performance by that ultimate professional, Wes Helms. His skills are unsurpassed at keeping the bench nice and warm. After years of study and hard, splinter-inducing experience, he carefully positions his rear end just-so to maximize heat transfer. When asked how he works his magic, Wes responded "I watch a lot of film and stay ready for anything. You never know when some guy is going to scream a foul a ball into the dugout. And, you know, those bats guys lose control of. They're the worst. Gotta stay alert. Stuff comes flying at you all the time." Now that the Marlins are 13-3 in games in which he does not appear, his extraordinary talent is increasing his trade value almost daily, from an early-season value of a bag of scuffed baseballs to a now almost stratospheric $1 plus a dozen rosin bags and two bags of infield dirt. One GM, still hung-over from the winter meetings speculated that Helms' trade value by the non-waiver deadline could be almost unimaginable. "Who else can you rely on to win more than 80% of your games? A player you can sit and still win like that is invaluable."

Cousins didn't make an appearance and yet we still won???? How is that possible???
May 15, 201115 yr game was great, these 2 games have been really exciting. LOL on the helms comments.

Oh, and he can't hit for s*** this year... DD, were you directly behind the Marlins bench with a Road Hanley jersey on if so I think I may have seen you. Anyway, Hanley is cocky even when he is on the field his demeanor before the ball games is cocky, during it's cocky. I find it funny that when one of the bench coaches hit a soft ball to Hanley in the shortstop area he completely mis played it and it went in and out of his glove, it made me laugh and just think Hanley being Hanley. The reason I say Stanton is all business is because he doesn't really acknowledge anyone just sticks to the routine, I see what some of you are saying regarding Hanley and that if he didn't sign he would be viewed an asshole but unfortunately for Hanley (or not really unfortunately) he is seen (imo) as the Marlin that needs to be a fan favorite and needs to be good to the fans being that he is kind of the centerpiece of the team or has been made into it, whether that pans out is still being seen. In a way i feel bad for Manny/Hanley because maybe these type of guys don't want center stage or the attention that they get and when thrust into that position they don't know how to handle it, Manny being manny with dreads and the number 99, did he really want to be the star, he wanted attention but to the be the star was something different. (imo) Perhaps we are seeing the same with Hanley, with the whole leadership role, but I suppose at least he is trying. I will be at game 3 today don't expect to win with Vazquez on the mound but anything can happen and we have won 8 straight at National park, hope to make it 9 and a sweep.
May 15, 201115 yr gofishgom's, where you gonna be sitting at. i scooted down to the 3rd baseline line, about 15 rows deep yesterday. youre right nobody checks the ticket lol.

Oh, and he can't hit for s*** this year... According to John Buck a couple weeks back, he's been a good leader while he's been struggling. "All I heard about as far as him not being a leader when stuff goes bad, the best thing that could ever happen is having him start out bad and being the team player he's been," said Buck, after watching Ramirez go 0-for-4 in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Rockies. "He's struggling probably the worst on the team and when I'm punching out or getting out he's the first one patting me on the butt. Whatever he's been in the past, it's far from what I've experienced here. It's directly reflected on the way we're playing, the way he's dealing."
May 16, 201115 yr The good thing about hanley not performing well as a leader is that it will give us a huge discount when we resign him. It realllly takes away from actual production and can be seen on all of his stats over the years. Also, his poor leadership has a level 9 lack of motivation AoE which costs the team 3.8 wins over the season. I wouldnt want to resign him if he continued to perform like this over the long term

Been drinking to celebrate the end of my exams......
