November 25, 200322 yr The Mets met with Luis Castillo's agents last night and could soon make the free agent an offer. Castillo has a three-year, $15.5 million offer on the table from the Marlins. According to the New York Daily News, Castillo's agents told the Mets that Castillo wants to play for them, but they urged GM Jim Duquette to move quickly if he wanted the second baseman before other teams got into the bidding c/o rotoworld ...Please...Please...dont go to the Mets :banghead
November 25, 200322 yr Nov. 25 - Urbina's agent told Insider's Jerry Crasnick that Mets GM Jim Duquette has expressed interest in Urbina as a possible closer for New York next season. The interest is mutual. "Ugie is confident in his abilities," agent Chris Leible said. "He thinks Mariano Rivera is 1(a) among closers, and he's 1(b). When you have an attitude like that, what better place to play than in New York? We think his style would suit the city well." ESPN Insider The Mets. You gotta love 'em. They just can't decide what they're doing. I thought they were rebuilding? You KNOW they're gonna give Urbina too much money. And that 1(b) line is one of the single funniest things I've ever read. Lord knows when you think Mariano Rivera you immediately think Ugueth Urbina.
November 25, 200322 yr This is a sign more than ever to let Luis go! If the Mets want him, there must be something very bad looming with him...truthfully, I hope the Muts move fast and do steal him from us. That would free us up with money and save us from suffering bad PR by not being able to re-sign Luis who is demanding too much money in my opinion. You can have him Mets - he is just going to blow up with injuries on your roster anyway... Uggy...is pretty good, but not Rivera. Sorry...wish we could re-sign him though.
November 25, 200322 yr The Mets don't know what to do. First they want to stay put and sign no big free agents... then they want to make a big move... then they don't... and now they do again I guess. They also have interest in Matsui and then would either move him or Reyes to 2b. We'll have to play the waiting game. As for Urbina, I can't see him in a Mets jersey for some reason and I'd really like him to stay on as our closer.
November 25, 200322 yr That would free us up with money and save us from suffering bad PR by not being able to re-sign Luis who is demanding too much money in my opinion. Demanding too much money? How much is he demanding? I hadn't heard much from him other than he wanted a multi-year deal, which is understandable.
November 25, 200322 yr Haven't the Mets learned from past mistakes? Not that Luis or Uggie would be a mistake, but its definately not going to help that ball club right now.
November 25, 200322 yr jesus christ I hope we dont use the money we save from UU and Castillo to resign Pudge to some ridiculous contract. :banghead

Considering age ad talent, a freakign baragin if I ever saw one! I think Beinfest is just scared off by the notion of a long-term deal.
November 25, 200322 yr I think Beinfest is just scared off by the notion of a long-term deal. I don't think it's that at all. He basically figures that he is giving Luis a good deal at 3-years $15.5 Million. I think it's a great deal, too. But Admin is pretty much thinking that if Castillo doesn't bite, no big deal. There are plenty of options on the market (Walker, Grudzy, ect.) that could perform reasonably at a reasonable price.
November 25, 200322 yr well if the mets want him-than he prob. isnt so good-the mets dont know what thier doing-they need SERIOUS help-castillo isn't gonna help them.
November 25, 200322 yr well if the mets want him-than he prob. isnt so good That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard, and that includes anything Pubes has said. And can you PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD start using period's (.) and cama's (,) instead of those slash things (-)? It's not that hard, just press a different freakin' button.

If that were true, Beinfest would not have so publically made Castillo our top priority. He wouldn't be shopping Lee to the Orioles. And even if Lee or Castillo aren't in the plans, more would have been made about the Diamondbacks-Junior Spivey deal. He might have made more of effort to resign Pudge or sign Lowell to extension already factoring in the money that would be saved by letting Castillo go. Or he might have already talked to Grudz or Walker and it would ahve been leaked to the press like everything is.

But Beinfest knows he has a lot of reasonable options to replace him, so he isn't going to force a deal. Luis has his offer on the table. Whether he chooses to accept it is up to him. I think it's being implied that Pudge really isn't a top priority, and he shouldn't be. Castillo needs to be first, and signing Lowell long-term needs to be second. I think both of those things will happen.

Why should you feel bad? You aren't the obnoxious know-it-all on this board. You're entitled to your opinion.

November 25, 200322 yr No WildCard I won't shut up. Why should I? Do you think you can intimidate me? Or bully me? The reason you are so upset is because deep down inside that barely adolescent and seldom used brain of yours you know I'm right. Try to be more civil and a lot more accepting of other people's points of view and you and I will get along fine. Keep playing Mr. Know-it-all or being abusive to other people here and I'll call you on it every time.
