The Mets met with Luis Castillo's agents last night and could soon make the free agent an offer. Castillo has a three-year, $15.5 million offer on the table from the Marlins. According to the New York Daily News, Castillo's agents told the Mets that Castillo wants to play for them, but they urged GM Jim Duquette to move quickly if he wanted the second baseman before other teams got into the bidding

Nov. 25 - Urbina's agent told Insider's Jerry Crasnick that Mets GM Jim Duquette has expressed interest in Urbina as a possible closer for New York next season. The interest is mutual.

"Ugie is confident in his abilities," agent Chris Leible said. "He thinks Mariano Rivera is 1(a) among closers, and he's 1(b). When you have an attitude like that, what better place to play than in New York? We think his style would suit the city well."

You KNOW they're gonna give Urbina too much money. And that 1(b) line is one of the single funniest things I've ever read.

This is a sign more than ever to let Luis go! If the Mets want him, there must be something very bad looming with him...truthfully, I hope the Muts move fast and do steal him from us. That would free us up with money and save us from suffering bad PR by not being able to re-sign Luis who is demanding too much money in my opinion. You can have him Mets - he is just going to blow up with injuries on your roster anyway...

The Mets don't know what to do. First they want to stay put and sign no big free agents... then they want to make a big move... then they don't... and now they do again I guess.

 

They also have interest in Matsui and then would either move him or Reyes to 2b.

 

We'll have to play the waiting game.

 

As for Urbina, I can't see him in a Mets jersey for some reason and I'd really like him to stay on as our closer.

Demanding too much money? How much is he demanding? I hadn't heard much from him other than he wanted a multi-year deal, which is understandable.

Demanding too much money? How much is he demanding? I hadn't heard much from him other than he wanted a multi-year deal, which is understandable. Reports are that he wants a 4-year deal making $5.5 or 6 million a year.

I don't think it's that at all. He basically figures that he is giving Luis a good deal at 3-years $15.5 Million. I think it's a great deal, too. But Admin is pretty much thinking that if Castillo doesn't bite, no big deal. There are plenty of options on the market (Walker, Grudzy, ect.) that could perform reasonably at a reasonable price.

Castillo is our top priority, yes. This is obvious. But Beinfest knows he has a lot of reasonable options to replace him, so he isn't going to force a deal. Luis has his offer on the table. Whether he chooses to accept it is up to him.
