October 12, 201114 yr Author He has a great shot, though. Great shot wont cut it if he's being manhandled by people half his size, as well as turning the puck over in his own zone and creating offensive chances for the other team. He wasn't the only one guilty of that, of course. But he's also the only one without a secure roster spot (for the next 7 games). With others it looks very, very sloppy. With him, it looks very, very amateur. I hope he picks up his game because I think he'll adjust, either way.
October 13, 201114 yr Author Dadonov sent down today... I guess if there's no spot for him on our roster, it's better that he plays elsewhere.
October 14, 201114 yr The NHL is doing it again with their crazy scheduling. Pittsburgh has played 5 games while San Jose has only played 1.
October 14, 201114 yr Bickell-Boland-Frolik line looks great (jack skille.. lol).. with the Brunette-Toews-Sharp and Carcillo-Kane-Hossa lines looking beastly, it will be interesting to see what happens with Ben Smith (who i love) and Viktor Stalberg when they return from injuries. I'd assume keep the youngster Kruger up and send Olesz to Rockford. Stacked. Lots of nice looking youngsters and finally below the cap (thanks florida).. so the hawks also have 3.5 mil to work with if they feel inclined to make a move. Bowman is a genius
October 14, 201114 yr Author You can't possibly be laughing at Jack Skille while enjoying the absentee player that is Michael Frolik. If anyone should be laughing it's the fact that you have Rostislav Olesz and we have Brian Campbell. Sure, Campbell is no superstar anymore, but he's also certainly not Rostislav Olesz.
October 14, 201114 yr Yes I am laughing.. because the blackhawks fleeced you big time in that trade. Frolik is a good player for us. However he played in hockey hell is inconsequential to us now.. and hey, we even got a young goalie out of it. Brian Campbell has the worst contract in the league. Bowman deserves an award for actually finding someone to take it. Will look even more brilliant if someone claims Olesz after he gets sent to Rockford. But getting rid of that contract gives the hawks a lot of flexibility
October 14, 201114 yr Author Frolik has no 2-way game, he's soft, and he's hardly productive. Alexander Salak wont do sh*t for you. He's an AHL journeyman. Brian Campbell had a bad contract, not the worst contract. You arguably picked up the second to worst contract next to Wade Redden or Rick DiPietro or one of the 500 Islander dumb contracts. The difference is that Brian Campbell has value to a starting roster. The guy you picked up doesn't. Brian Campbell earns a portion of his money, Olesz doesn't earn a dime of it and still gets paid. Plus, we rest at the cap floor. What on earth makes you think we care how much Brian Campbell is making? We're not in cap hell like the Blackhawks.
October 14, 201114 yr Just throwing this in there, but Skille has looked pretty good so far this season. He fits in here more under Tallon and Dineen's system than he did in Chicago. Frolik would not.
October 14, 201114 yr Hawks aren't in cap hell anymore. Campbell has a 7+ mil salary for the next 5 years (1/9th the hard cap). Good luck with aaaallll that
October 14, 201114 yr Author Yeah... the Blackhawks are. They can't afford sh*t, even after that trade. And again... maybe you missed the part where I said cap floor. You guys are just off the cap ceiling by about 2 million (and expiring contracts where raises are due). Other than that, you've got a lot of players tied up with a ton of money. The Panthers, on the other hand, are about 11 million off the cap floor. Just about everyone's on a four year contract, and when those expire we'll be so far under the cap floor that we'll have copious amounts of $$ to spend on RFAs and UFAs once again. In the meantime, we've still got about 11 million to improve our team, but other than Brian Campbell we have very little money tied up.
October 14, 201114 yr It should be noted that you're striving to be where the Hawks are because I'm not sure I consider it "cap hell" when the money is tied up with the core (Tazer, Kaner, Hossa, Sharpy, Keith, Seabrook, Hjammerson, Bolland, Bickell, Frolik, Crawford).. the only ones over 25 are Keith, Sharpe and Hossa, and all 3 of those guys are awesomely awesome. FWIW, they're 4 mil under the cap this season and 8 next.. and with stud 19-20 y/os waiting in the wings like Leddy, Smith, Saad, Pirri and Kruger.. well, hell looks pretty good. The cap is definitely not the concern like it was with previous management

Considering the guy is logging 30 minutes a night here and is still one of the better puck-moving defensemen in the league, I'll take it. I'll certainly take it over having Bustislav Nolesz on the team. That was the best trade the Panthers have made in forever.
October 14, 201114 yr That was the best trade the Panthers have made in forever. Believe me, the feeling is mutual in Blackhawk land.

Some of the guys you mentioned aren't exactly "core players." Relax there, guy.

The cap is definitely not the concern like it was with previous management It's still cap hell because you don't have flexibility. This has nothing to do with the team itself. Of course the Hawks are great. That doesn't mean that just because Michael Frolik is a Hawk now he's automatically good and was sh*t as a Panther. That doesn't mean that Brian Campbell was good as a Hawk and now he's useless in Florida. That doesn't mean Rostislav Olesz all of the sudden has some form of value on NHL ice (that isn't negative). That doesn't mean that Hjammerson, Bolland, Bickell, Frolik, Crawford, or even Hossa are 'core players', an entire team isn't a 'core'). The Hawks are 4 million from the soft cap but 2 million from the hard cap. Of course... in reality only the soft cap matters when your team has infinite funds. The cap in Chicago is most definitely still a concern. It's a good problem to have when your team is good, but to say it's not a concern is silly.
October 16, 201114 yr Gudbranson got a couple of nice punches in but the last two he took looked nasty.
