HR sculpture to be removed?

The public art angle can be argued on the retractable issue all you guys want. But I would think it has more to do with the engineering and financial constraints. Could be some safety issues also came into it.

No, it can't. Visible is visible. You can't stick "public art" in a closet or a hole 99.9% of the time and just trot it out 2 or 3 hours per year.

I mentioned the construction cost earlier, but the more I think about it, the more obvious it becomes that it wasn't a financial thing, it was M-D County. They love their public "art" so much that they want as many of us peons to see it as possible. In fact, they demand it.

Ok, then leave it sticking out when there is no game going on, and tuck it in during the game. Then it's visible most of the time.

Also, regardless of whether it's out or not, that piece is going to be seen. It's a big part of that parks atmosphere.

Not to nitpick, but... this was shot using a wide-angle lens. The perspective is distorted -- meaning that this is not how the eye sees things. The HR feature would appear bigger to the batter in the box than how it's presented here.

Agreed. Completely understand.

All baseless conjecture.

"Visible" means visible. You can't propose to stick a piece of "public art" in a closet and get it approved. Nor can you keep it in a 50' hole (or even a 20' hole) 99.9% of the time and get it approved by the M-D Art in Public Places Professional Advisory Committee.

The retractable version that Rab showed in the video was the first rendering we got to see after it was supposedly "approved."

You are reading way too much into this.

What would have made the piece MUCH better is if it were to come out of the ground during a home run, like the apple at Citi Field. They could have had it pop up in four stages, from tallest to shortest backgrounds, with the marlins and birds doing their thing in the end.

Edit: Didnt see that someone mentioned this already.

I heard the home run feature is being moved directly behind second base.

I heard Ozzie wanted it in the dugout, but then settled for 2nd base when they wouldn't adjust the ceiling so that it would fit.

Strange, when I look at the cam (Interior Panorama) it still on march the 5th

That only updates once a day. Use the other interior cam with the 4 different shots.

yeah, I use the Interior Construction Camera but it only pans a quarter of the stadium, cant get it to pan over to the right, kinda stuck on home plate only. The round view pan control thing in the top left is greyed out. So when I try to click the the arrows to pan right its just like nothing happens. been like that for months

use the 3rd preset from the left and it will show the outfield wall.

Below the "round view pan control thing" there are four presets. click each to get a different camera angle, then you can zoom in and then use the pan control thing.

lol, got it now, never noticed that feature before. all this time... :compsmash

Thanks Dolphin john

Think you or someone could post a pic for me on the forum? I'm curious but on my phone so can't see. :(

They should've painted it dark blue, so that it blended with the seats.

Unless the black is just a primer...
