Stanton NL Player of the Month in May

OUR BABY IS GROWING UP

Dont worry... he'll be our baby for along time to come, just a very strong baby

Yes, perfect.

Stanton: .343 BA, .432 OBP, 12 HR's, 30 RBI's...well deserved.

He got it over Melky Cabrera who hit .429 (.457 OBP) with 3 HR's, 24 runs & 17 RBI's.

Gio Gonzalez was also a prime candidate- 5-0, 2.25 ERA, 79 K's in 61.2 IP.

And so you realize how amazing Josh Hamilton has been this season, even with Stanton's huge month Josh was still able to match him... .344 BA, .405 OBP, 12 HR's, 32 RBI's...

For the love of all that is holy, sign this man before he has a similar month in June and we're talking 90 million+ easy then to sign him.

I mean how many more PA did Hanley have than Stanton does right now when we signed him? Couldn't be more than 200-250. What more do you need to see? And Stanton will be younger.

Stupid ass Bell contract would have paid for 1/3rd of Stanton.

They signed Hanley 5/17/08 to 6 years/70 mill. He had 1595 PAs through 5/16/08.

Stanton has 1208 PAs through yesterday. He'll probably reach ~1600 near the end of the season.

Wow, congrats!! Did Dunn win the AL?

Josh Hamilton got the AL

I want to see a Stanton, Hamilton, Trumbo and Dunn HR derby.

Still crazy to think Stanton is only 22. With the way Hanley is going he could get June player of the month.

Future: Stanton World Series MVP

Plate appearances is not the issue when discussing what kind of deal he will get. It all depends on how far he is from free agency. Which is why the Hanley comp does not really work.

I was using PA to indicate how long the Marlins might feel they need to wait, and evaluate, before committing to buying out a young star. Right, Stanton is farther from free agency but he stands to gain a more lucrative deal than Hanley as it is, and with additional PA and time it is only going to grow more lucrative.

I'm not necessarily sure he's definitely going to get a more lucrative deal than Hanley. He had a ROTY and top-10 MVP finish at the time he signed and was in the midst of a second .900+ OPS season when he signed.

I guess we'll have to wait and see on that front. There's also four years of contract inflation to account for, and Stanton is also in the midst of a second ~.900 OPS season. I'm not sure the lack of accolades will really make much of a difference.

If we had signed him last off-season, I would have been pretty surprised if he got more than Hanley in annual amount (I think we can expect a 7th year though). But these last two months make a difference.

Stanton will definitely get a more lucrative contract because of the contract inflation factor.

It's also not out of the question that Stanton hits 40+ home runs and is a MVP contender this season. Those would elevate his value beyond Hanley's at the time
