The Semi-official "Fire Eduardo Perez" Thread

Featured Replies

The point is, that fella is droppin' some straight nonsense up in this thread.

Pretty much. Was just trying to reiterate that.

He's good at dropping nonsense.

I dunno about a "mental toll" but I don't think it's ridiculous to wonder if playing the outfield, for a guy who's clearly not suited for it, might have an effect on his overall game. Personally I doubt it, but I mean the guy has had some injury issues.

i think the biggest downer has been Lomo. After his rookie campaign and listening to all the hype surrounding him and his "sweet swing" he's turned into utter crap. Buck is having a career poor season by his standards. unless he's utterly lost it his track record suggest he'll turn it around at some point (although "turn around" may just mean he ends up with a .210 avg or so for this season considering how low it is now). Lomo is just atrocious though and is awful defensively as well. I think we all knew Coghlan was going to be a flash in the pan but lomo...oy vey..lomo

I wonder how much of a mental toll playing both Coghlan & LoMo out of position has had on their careers ? I hope its just coincidence but if that is part of it, then management has to bear some of the blame in the downturn of their careers. Playing someone out of position for a few months or even a year can be acceptable, but to continue to play someone out of position longer is not fair to the player - because he is not seeing the potential of his career. If there is no room for them at their position then it should behoove the team to get rid of them for the best offer they can get. Otherwise you could be just ruining a guy, leading to a less than potential career, and ultimately not getting your values worth anyways.

Players change positions all of the time. It didn't stop Gary Sheffield from being one of the best hitters of his generation to name but one of literally countless examples.

You're really reaching. It's not a good look.

Oooooh, I forgot about Miguel Cabrera too! His career sucked.

A-Rod? Cal Ripken Jr (allbeit late in his career)?

Moving someone from one infield position to another is not the same as moving them from the outfield to infield or vice versa. There are a different set of skills involved in playing the outfield and playing the infield.

And besides neither of those players were moved early in their careers, and neither LoMo or Coghlan, are considered anywhere near the talent level of A-Rod or Cal Ripken Jr.

Miguel Carbrera is an example of someone who adapted from outfield to infield, but again are Coghlan or LoMo considered on the same planet as the skills of Cabrera ?

And I am not saying its definite, its just a possible explaination.

I remember seeing discussions on this board about how people we worried that Coghlan didn't have the skills to transition to the outfield permanently. When things started on the down with him, maybe he just doesn't have the capability to make himself into the player the organization sees him as (playing as an outfielder), and he knows this and its taken a toll on him - being frustrated - and that can lead to all kinds of mental and physical problems.

Coghlan won rookie of the year playing the outfield. Then he kept playing the outfield and sucked. Clearly moving to the outfield ruined him.

Going on 1 ER scored in 30 innings this series. To say this is anything less than utterly pathetic and inexcusable is lying to yourself. Eduardo had no business getting the job in the first place and has no business keeping it.

Team is so bad it doesn't even matter who's coaching anymore. I think that actually might be the case anyway.

It probably isn't the case. They are 1 game over .500.

Yeah! That'll fix things!

Hell that that would give us our 5th manager and 4th hitting coach in 4 years. That has to work right!

Yeah cause this is working so well. Give me one qualification Eduardo Perez has to deserve this job other then being Tony's son which is the only reason he got the job. 14 strikeouts today against a sub par pitcher. Our approach is horrendous. No patience on the plate, constantly swinging at ball four, swinging for homeruns instead of hits. Say what you want but we have two batting champions on this team that look clueless at the plate. If you think a hitting coaches don't make a difference, then the same should apply to golf. Why is it that golfers spend a fortune getting the right coach. BECAUSE IT MATTERS. FIRE EDUARDO PEREZ NOW!!! This will cost Ozzy his job if he doesn't react soon.

Since his average fell to .205 on the second to last day of April, Jose Reyes is batting .311 with an .824 OPS so you should probably not use him as an excuse for why Perez should be fired.

Also, golfers play four days a week, so why don't baseball players play four days a week?!?!

What does this have to do with anything???

You said a thing about golfers that has nothing to do with anything, so I thought I would too.

Really? Let's see a swing coach in golf helps with tweaking the swing and approach and guess what, so does a hitting coach.

Well I think they do need to fire the hitting coach is your job to teach the players patient at the plate ,recognized the pitch and adjust the swing and when to bat for a hit and when to bat for the fences,so far he has not done anything of that and bottom line you can have the best pitching rotation bit if you dont score you cant win......If they want to be in the race for the playoff this season they need to make a drastic move and they need to do it now.....

Do they really need a hitting coach to tell them to be patient and not swing at bad pitches? Let's stop talking about that as if it's some sort of mystery that only a hitting coach can uncover for a major league hitter.

I'm a Major League hitter, and what in the blue f*** is "patient" and "not swing at bad pitches?" I told you, mystikol, no science fiction. YOU'RE A HORRISHIT AGENT!
