Jon Daniels and the Rangers swooped in out of nowhere in waning minutes before the deadline to steal Dempster -- first from the Dodgers and then from the Yankees. It's a big addition for Texas, which was in real danger if they couldn't acquire a front-line starter. Dempster is unlikely to maintain his 2.25 ERA in Texas, but he will solidify a rotation which has been wrecked by injuries and recent ineffectiveness. The veteran right-hander will be a free agent at year's end.
July 31, 201213 yr I think this was more what the Rangers wanted to do, give up lesser prospects and make a run at the WS this year. They know that Napoli and Hamilton might leave in FA, and didn't want to risk also giving up top prospects. Can't fault them for what they've done. Smart management really. They're so deep those guys are easily replaceable for them.
