2012 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

This would be interesting...

According to WGN's David Kaplan, the Cubs and Tigers are "hard at work" on a trade that would send Alfonso Soriano to Detroit.

"Not sure they can make money work," Kaplan writes. Capital has always been Theo Epstein's impediment in dealing Soriano. Despite the veteran's resurgent season -- .274/.324/.504 with 19 homers and 61 RBI to go along with improved defense -- the 36-year-old outfielder is still owed $18 million over the next two seasons. If Chicago and Detroit split the remaining money owed -- or come close -- a deal could be struck.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Rangers have acquired right-hander Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.

Hendricks put up nice numbers...but he's 23 years old in single A. Pretty much, Rangers gave up a little to get a few months rental of Dempster.

Rangers acquired RHP Ryan Dempster from the Cubs for 3B Christian Villanueva and RHP Kyle Hendricks.

Jon Daniels and the Rangers swooped in out of nowhere in waning minutes before the deadline to steal Dempster -- first from the Dodgers and then from the Yankees. It's a big addition for Texas, which was in real danger if they couldn't acquire a front-line starter. Dempster is unlikely to maintain his 2.25 ERA in Texas, but he will solidify a rotation which has been wrecked by injuries and recent ineffectiveness. The veteran right-hander will be a free agent at year's end.

I think this was more what the Rangers wanted to do, give up lesser prospects and make a run at the WS this year.

They know that Napoli and Hamilton might leave in FA, and didn't want to risk also giving up top prospects.

Can't fault them for what they've done. Smart management really. They're so deep those guys are easily replaceable for them.

Wow! Its been over 15 years since the Rangers traded away Dempster to the Marlins, he'll finally throw a pitch for them in the show.

Royals acquired LHP Donnie Joseph and RHP J.C. Sulbaran from the Reds for RHP Jonathan Broxton.

Donne Joseph has been disgusting, he's got closer stuff or at worst a really good setup guy. That's alot to give up for a rental of Broxton who isn't even going to close for the Reds. Dang...

A third round pick in the 2009 Draft, Joseph was the Reds' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2010. The 24-year-old has been dominant across the Double- and Triple-A levels this year, going 8-3 with a 1.72 ERA in 44 relief appearances. He will be in Kansas City's bullpen before the end of the year.

So it turns out Neftali Felix is going to need tommy john. The Rangers kept it silent so as not to hurt trade negotiations.

Those sum bitches.

Plus Sulbaran isn't too bad, probably a 4th or 5th starter
