A 100 loss team has a high enough probability of beating a 100 win team that it's necessary to play multiple games in a row to establish an adequate sampling size.

I agree; I've become not a fan of this game. The reason why the final week was so exciting had nothing to do with this second wildcard, either. It's just rewarding mediocrity.
