October 24, 201213 yr I'm not a Loria fan, but in this instance I defend the moves made. I, like he, expected performance from Bell and Ozzie when hired. It costs him money to fire them and start over. Not easy, or cheap, but that's the right approach. Exactly. A stubborn owner would dig in his heels and maintain the status quo. I'm right, dammit! Loria decided he was wrong and cut his losses. Cost him 15 mill, but fortunately he now has the ability to do so without putting everyone through another year of the failed Ozzie, Bell and Hanley show. Not on the scale of the Yankee's ability to blow off bad decisions, but maybe proportional.
October 24, 201213 yr Author Bell is one thing. But you seriously think Ozzie had a say in many of the bad decisions that were made? The team was not producing runs, we were inconsistent across the board, a hitting coach with no experience, and you're gonna put the onus on Ozzie? That's pathetic at worst, naive at best. This particular stink - it comes straight from the top.

I'm more critical of the fact that he thought that Bell and Guillen were wise investments in the first place. I'm fine with cutting his losses, but these moves shouldn't have been made in the beginning.
October 24, 201213 yr Loria isn't a bad owner. He's just too meddlesome for his own good sometimes. John Henry was a bad owner, Wayne Huizinga was a horrible owner when he didn't get his way. Pittsburgh's owner is horrible, so is the Mets with the Wilpons. Frank Mccourt was a bad owner, as well as MLB as owner of the Expos. Drayton McClane is a bad owner, so is Peter Angelos, as well as the guy in Seattle who has never seen his own team play- ever. Loria isn't a bad owner- he's a bad manager. I'd take Loria over every single one of the guys previously mentioned- including the guy in Seattle. There are only a handful of guys who are great owners, you can only hope yours falls just below them. I feel Loria is behind the Steinbrenner Family, Arte Moreno, Henry in Boston, Reinsdorf, the Guy in TB, Nolan Ryan Express. Loria is in the top 15 to me, which is better then you guys give him credit for. Every day of the week, twice on Sundays

It costs him money to fire them and start over. Not easy, or cheap, but that's the right approach. But you see, the problem with Loria is that he never sticks with anything for more than a year. You can't run a baseball team like that. The lack of continuity from year to year is going to mess up our players and likely deter FAs from considering signing with us (assuming Loria ever opens up his wallet again after the disaster that was the 2012 campaign). He fired Girardi after a massive overperforming season because they didn't get along. He axed Fredi after the two of them couldn't get on the same page with Hanley. Then he fired Ozzie because he expected instant success with a decent, but flawed, roster, and didn't get what he wanted.
October 25, 201213 yr the problem with Loria is that he never sticks with anything for more than a year. Completely and utterly wrong. What's good about Loria is that he refuses to stick with losers. I own a baseball team and my manager yells at me from the dugout about giving an umpire some sh!t? You're fired. End of story. Nobody running an effective organization tolerates blatant public insubordination from anyone. Ever. Privately expressed disagreement? Sure, let's talk further about it. I made a mistake by signing Guillan and Bell? No problem. Clearly, I was wrong. Get rid of them before they do any more damage. "Stick with it" types give you the results of the Cubs. What Loria does is the sort of thing more clubs should do.

Guillen wasn't fired for having little success, he was booted for that reason among a long list of others. Imagine if we hadn't had the best month in franchise history in May. This would be a 100+ loss team. He should absolutely be gone.
October 26, 201213 yr Since nobody bothered to answer my question, I went and found the answer myself. Here's why it's not likely Loria will be selling the Marlins any time soon: That was the fear of some city officials, who said that with the ballpark deal significantly increasing the Marlins' value, Loria could reap a windfall by selling the team. A $57 million bill in 2015 for players signed in 2011 would then become someone else's responsibility. Because of such concerns, the city's agreement with the Marlins calls for Loria to pay a significant penalty if he sells the team in the next seven years. The penalty falls from 18 percent of the sale price this year to 5 percent if he sells in 2018. If Loria sold the team for $200 million in 2015, the penalty would be more than $25 million. October 26, 201213 yr Sold in 2018. Plz. He can sell now, by factoring in the penalty to the sale price. AKA, he wants 200 Million, sell for 230 (roughly)
November 14, 201213 yr Everyone needs to stop saying Loria is the worst owner ever, he will never be as bad as that guy that killed the Expos.
November 14, 201213 yr Beat me to it. I was thinking about starting a thread just like this. We as fans are being held hostage by this guy. He needs to go ASAP. I don't know how that's going to happen but it really NEEDS to happen.
