Michael
I say yes on this one. However, this line: [soriano’s agent] Scott Boras told me he was confident that he could get Rafael a $60-million contract for four years. Scares me a bit. DolphinJohn
So, are we pretending Heath Bell never happened? C'mon, what are the odds we sign a "lights out" closer for big bucks two years in a row and they BOTH tank? .
DolphinJohn
So, are we pretending Heath Bell never happened? I now read all your posts in the voice of Ron Swanson. .

C'mon, what are the odds we sign a "lights out" closer for big bucks two years in a row and they BOTH tank? . Well, that's not the point. Even if he's awesome, he's not worth 15 million a year spread out over 4 years. Or even 10 million. Cishek can do a solid job in the closer role for the minimum. And yes, Ron Swanson is my idol. Jokersgoon
I prefer Madson now that he's a free agent over Soriano.
Piazza31
I prefer Madson now that he's a free agent over Soriano. Same here, and should be much cheaper. He might sign a 4 year deal for 25 million just because of how last offseason went for him.
Michael
Terrible idea. Outside of the costs, why exactly would this be terrible, Erick?

anotherrealfan
If the FO did this, I would not say, great, thanks for showing us commttment, I would say-you guys are stupid-no way any closer is worth this.
Wild Card
I agree on Madson. He's going to have to sign another one year deal coming off Tommy John, as for even less money than last year. Cishek might suffice as a closer, but he's not a shut down guy in the 9th like he was in the 8th. He's another Leo Nunez, a great set up guy but a very average closer. To be successful on this league, you need a GREAT pitcher in the 8th AND the 9th. Madson is the only option that makes sense.

Erick
Terrible idea. Outside of the costs, why exactly would this be terrible, Erick? I don't like the question. It's like saying: outside of finishing last the past two years, what's been so terrible about the last two years? You answered the question. Michael
If the cost for paying a good reliever is 1/3 of what Soriano is going to get, I probably would not mind. I'm asking about Soriano specifically, though. Say he came cheap. Would you want Rafael Soriano, yes or no?

Even if he doesn't get the 4/60 Boras thinks he should get, he's going to get something close to that.
Michael
Because, it's fun to do hypothetical situations, Mr. Erick. Plus, I was just wanting to know why exactly you said "terrible idea." So, thank you for answering that and then the following questions.

Erick
The reliever I'd like the team to sign is Koji Uehara. If they even plan on signing a reliever... ...But if they do, I hope it's Koji. He's probably not getting more than one year and he's not going to be all that expensive. He's also an elite reliever.

Erick
That's the beautiful face I'd like to see handling the majority of the high-leverage innings next year if we plan on signing a reliever.
