December 2, 200322 yr Why aren't we even showing Uggy any intrest? The friggin Mets, the same team that is in our division is making a pitch for Uggy and the Marlins don't seem to care. I do not think Braden Looper should be our closer next year. Uggy is from Aventure and wants to play for the fish and all he is asking for the Marlins to atleast make an offer I am sure if the Marlins FO came up with anything reasonable he'd be back. I was just wondering what ya'll thought about our closer situation. I do not want to see Looper cosing games, we need to get rid of his salary and sign Uggy to possibly a two year deal.

There's nothing I'd like to do more than to agree with you, part of me says you're right on the mark, let's lock up Uggie. But at the same time, Admin Beinfest has done terrifically and seems to be the man with the plan. Until there's a chink in his armor, until he blows one, you have to figure he knows what he's doing. There's a reason the FO is waiting on signing Uggie, perhaps it's as simple as Pudge being the next priority, perhaps they have questions about Uggie's short and long term value. You have to assume no one knows Uggie's physical condition and his ability to pitch in 2004 better than the Fish. One of the problems with Uggie is he doesn't come cheap. Beinfest may be unable to consider re-signing until other pieces fall into place.
December 2, 200322 yr Whatever - Happy Birthday Pudge! I hope you enjoy playing for the Orioles. Now, back on the topic,,,,,I agree that Beinfest appears to have a plan and a very good one at that. I don't think it includes Uggie, much to my chagrin. I think we are going to have to sit on the edge of our seats with Loop next year. Sorry. I trust Beinfest,,,,,he is doing great!
December 2, 200322 yr NO WAY! Sorry, Uggie is probably my favorite Marlin right now, but our team cannot afford a 4-5 million dollar RP.
December 2, 200322 yr Guys...calm down...remember the FA market is really slow right now and theres a plethora of closers out there....Beinfest knowing theres lot of supply and not much demand is playing the waiting game to sign someone for a low salary...anyhow Beinfest has bigger things to worry in the next week like who to offer salary arbitration too and try to sign Pudge...looks like its going to be an interesting week
December 2, 200322 yr ...looks like its going to be an interesting week Pfft....you're telling me? I'm gonna go insane!
December 2, 200322 yr We should go after Uggy or Fox. The Cubs are intrested in Looper. If anyone wants the article just ask.
December 2, 200322 yr i dont kno about these older guys, Pudge and Uggy, that's about $15 mil for just them both. As much as i love Uggy i dont think he'll return, our young bullpen will have to step it up. Have the marlins signed Chad Fox??
December 2, 200322 yr We may have to go into this season like we did the last. Then when it comes July we make a deal to pick up a good closer.
December 2, 200322 yr Fox we can sign he isnt gonna be Xpensive its between us and Stro's we can get him for a mil or 1.5 mil a year..... Uggey we cant afford Looper isnt coming back, as much as i want Uggey some damn team is gonna ova pay his a** and thats how i see us losing him

Totally crazy. Urbina is awesome, look at his era with you guys? He throws in the 90s and has a changeup in the 60s. That's just plain sick, I would sign him in a second, you guys need him.

December 2, 200322 yr Beinfest said strengthening the bullpen is a priority, but said closer Ugueth Urbina is not likely to return. From AP Article on Lowell Resigning Doesnt look like Uggie is in our Plans
December 3, 200322 yr I believe I read on sportsline.com that we HAVE offered Chad Fox a contract. I heard the same thing
December 3, 200322 yr I believe I read on sportsline.com that we HAVE offered Chad Fox a contract. He is close to resigning, according to the Lowell contract article.
December 3, 200322 yr I guess Yankee fans don't understand budget constraints. that's a low blow. People talk about Guerrerro, go get on them. Urbina will come at the 3 to 4 million range, it is certainly doable. Urbina has fantastically improved.
December 3, 200322 yr According to rotoworld: The Cubs have offered free agent LaTroy Hawkins a three-year contract. It's hoped that he'll accept the deal soon, but if he decides to head elsewhere, Braden Looper, who is expected to be non-tendered, might become their top choice to set up and eventually compete with Joe Borowkski for closing duties. If Looper is non-tendered that would free up approx $3M.......perhaps enough to make a bid for Urbina ...say at $4M? :whistle Pudge first, then on to Urbina....hey, who could break up that romance????

Urbina will come at the 3 to 4 million range, it is certainly doable. Urbina has fantastically improved. I know its tough to get in the small market mind set, but we can't blow 3-4 million on ONE guy in the BULLPEN. There are other pressing needs.

EXACTLY-we dont have enough money to spend a lot on just one guy although its worth it for Pudge
December 4, 200322 yr Author I just read another article on how the Marlins likely will not resign Urbina.. And well it just makes me laugh. Waht in the heck are they thinking? They want pudge over some bullpen help!? Geesh we've got a plethera of catchers in our organization ( ok maybe 2 or 3 )and their are FA's i.e. Benito Santiago. If we weren'twasting so much time on Pudge not only time but money then we can sign Urbina! What are we going to do rely on Looper my goodness please tell me that's not what we will do, and Fox is not a closer maybe at one point considered but he's not goin to be one this is crazy We need bullpen help and not going after Uggy is rediculous.
