Marlins All-Time One and Done Team

Featured Replies

Bleacher Report put together a team based on Marlins who were only here for a season... I know Bleacer report is usually full of it so I didn't read much of the text, but I did compile the list in case anyone wanted to discuss it on here. I found it interesting because there's plenty of interesting names that were Marlins for just one season and not just because of firesales, take a look...

...come to think of it, if all those guys were hypothetically playing together in their best years, damn what a team!

I wish it'd been based on their time with us. Guys like Cameron and Gonzalez, sucked by the time they got here.

I'm currently trying to create the "best Marlins team of all time with players who have the letter "e" as the second letter of their last name."

Anybody want to help?

I wish it'd been based on their time with us. Guys like Cameron and Gonzalez, sucked by the time they got here.

I think it was based on that. He just couldn't find guys better. That's why this is such a stupid exercise.

Why do you think Homer Bush is starting? :lol

We've never had a 1 and done starting 2B. Barberie for 2, Veras for 2, Counsell for 2, Castillo for 7, Uggla for 5, Infante for 2.

And I don't think it's stupid (except for "IMAGINE IF WE KEPT THESE GUYS!). It's fun, at least for me. Something to do in the offseason.

Heath Bell? What about Robb Nen? Or Armando Benitez? Your contribution sucks.

We all know Heath would eat out even the fattest of competition.

Team of best Marlins draft picks who provided an actual contribution to the team (for example, not Adrian Gonzalez).

Because Rab is bored, and I want him to have fun. I am also bored, for what it's worth.

C - Charles Johnson

1B - Gaby Sanchez

2B - Dan Uggla (On a technicality as the Rule V Draft is a draft.) (If not him, Coghlan.)

3B - Josh Booty (I swear to God.)

SS - Dave Berg

LF - Josh Willingham

CF - Mark Kotsay

RF - Giancarlo Stanton

SP - Josh Beckket

SP - Josh Johnson

SP - Scott Olsen

SP - Jason Vargas

SP - Chris Volstad

RP - Randy Messenger

RP - Any number of random guys.

CP - Steve Chishek

I'm not even doing bench.

You'll notice some "home grown" Marlins missing: Cabrera, Gonzalez, Castillo and the like. This is due to them being FA international signings. Other guys you think of like that (Lowell, Lee, Jacobs) were actually traded for when they were in the minors. Other early guys came from the expansion draft.

2B is funny because while we've never drafted a good 2B in the amateur draft, we've also arguably never had a problem at that position in our 20-year history (and if Solano keeps with what he did last season, we won't until at least after him either).

If you treat Rule V as separate, you should go with Dave Berg for 2B. Coghlan didn't play there hardly at all in MLB.

Oh, wait. I just saw Berg as your SS. Didn't he play more innings at 2B/3B than SS?

Yes but I had nobody to put at SS.

Same reason Carlos Lee is in LF on your all _e* team despite never playing LF for us. (And because I hate Bryan Petersen.)

Yeah, I didn't want to include FA international signings because that would've made it really easy.

C-Charles Johnson

1B-Gaby Sanchez

2B-Dave Berg

3B-Josh Booty (lol)

SS-Robert Andino

LF-Josh Willingham

CF-Mark Kotsay

RF-Giancarlo Stanton

Bench - Logan Morrison, Chris Coghlan, Jeremy Hermida, Bryan Petersen, Brett Hayes

SP - Josh Beckett

SP - Josh Johnson

SP - Scott Olsen

SP - Chris Volstad

SP - Alex Sanabia

CL - Steve Cishek

SU - Randy Messenger

LOOGY - Taylor Tankersley

...and other guys to choose from...

AH, I forgot about Andino and Tank. I actually had Tankersley on there but forgot to right it down.

But seriously, Josh Booty is on both our lists. What the hell.

Hopefully Coghlan plays 3B every time Polanco misses a game this year to fix this dilemma.

I stopped reading when Mike Piazza was behind Pudge.

Piazza would have dropped that ball (Snow)

It's a hilarious joke about how Mike Piazza is arguably the best hitting catcher of all time. Significantly enough to deter any thoughts of requiring defense out of him.

You can maybe go with Dominguez there, I guess.

Yeah, we probably should have; Dominguez actually had 18 more PA's than Booty as a Marlin. Either way, both did very little here.

Oh and you can put Arthur Rhodes on the pitchers up top instead of Joe Borowski.

Seems like this was intended for the other thread.

I would put Bruce Aven-OF, Kiko Calero-RP, Hee Seop Choi-1B (bench), Dennis Cook-RP, Ross Gload-PH, Joe Nelson-RP, Mark Redman-SP, Tony Saunders-SP (based on his 3 wins against Braves) and Ugueth Urbina-CL on an all one year team.

Oh and you can put Arthur Rhodes on the pitchers up top instead of Joe Borowski.

Seems like this was intended for the other thread.

Well it fits in both. If Nick Johnson is considered here for '1 year' then so is Arthur Rhodes.

Which, for Mike, also holds my point. It doesn't look like seasons as a Marlin was seriously considered in this list.
