Rydawg
It's really not a priority, particularly with the even greater holes in all 3 other infield positions. Honestly, of the four infield spots, 1b is the one spot I'm not overly worried about. I'm going to make a bold prediction that Hech has a solid year, hitting in the .250 neighborhood and cutting down on the errors. Yup, I said it. Mark it down. .To be fair he only had 15 errors last season. That isn't a lot for SS. I think that's fairly decent. Andrelton Simmons who is also a young SS and a good comparison had 14 errors last season. He did have more total chances than HECH, but my point is that 15 errors is not a lot for a SS. But even if he hit .250, his obp would still be around .270 at best.
Backin2008
The Marlins missed the boat with the Brewers. I would have dealt Morrison straight up for Aoki. He was dealt to the Royals earlier today.
Admin
The Marlins missed the boat with the Brewers. I would have dealt Morrison straight up for Aoki. He was dealt to the Royals earlier today. The Brewers wouldn't have done that deal.
Backin2008
So you're saying that Will Smith (the reliever the Brewers got), is better than Logan Morrison?
Admin
They are going to make him a starting pitcher and that's what they were seeking in the deal, so he has more value to them - yes. They would not have traded Aoki for LoMo.
Backin2008
The Marlins still missed the boat Admin. Aoki would have been a nice fit in LF for the Fish.
Wild Card
The Marlins still missed the boat Admin. Aoki would have been a nice fit in LF for the Fish. So is Christian Yelich... did you forget about him?
Admin
The Marlins still missed the boat Admin. Aoki would have been a nice fit in LF for the Fish. You can't call it missing the boat when it wasn't going to happen. It's like saying we missed the boat on trading LoMo for Dexter Fowler. And yeah, our OF isn't the problem. Backin2008
I would rather have Aoki. Yelich should be playing CF for the Fish.
Admin
I would rather have Aoki. Yelich should be playing CF for the Fish. And the Marlins weren't going to get him for LoMo so it's meaningless.
Backin2008
The Brewers probably would have laughed in their faces! Morrison and what is what they would have likely said. Now you are starting to see what Morrison is worth.......maybe a Will Smith type.
Admin
No, the Royals wouldn't have traded Will Smith for LoMo either. He's a cost controlled pitcher who had a good 2013 albeit as a reliever. He's under team control for I think 5 more seasons.
Backin2008
The Royals have such a great bullpen that they can afford to deal Smith. No one can match the Royals for bullpen depth, period. Everyone throws 95-100 miles an hour and they are six or seven deep. This was a great trade for them.
Admin
Yes, it was a good deal. Aoki is a great piece to have and both sides filled needs. I give the edge on it slightly to KC because I'm not so sure Smith will be as productive back as a SP.
Backin2008
So Admin, what do you think the Marlins could honestly get for Logan Morrison?
Backin2008
The Rays, Astros, Brewers, Mets, Mariners and Pirates are the only teams that need a 1B......along with the Marlins if they dealt Morrison. What's going to hold Morrison's trade value down is the fact that Napoli, Morales, C.Hart, Loney, Morse, Overbay, Reynolds, Youkilis and McGehee are still on the free agent market and you don't have to give anything up for any of them except a paycheck. Admin
So Admin, what do you think the Marlins could honestly get for Logan Morrison? Not much probably. He may be worth more to the team if he stays since he theoretically could improve his value. I'm in favor of signing Napoli if it's realistic but otherwise if we have LoMo still, it could wind up ok. gizmo
So Admin, what do you think the Marlins could honestly get for Logan Morrison? Maybe a pretty good reliever and B/C prospect?
Backin2008
I think signing Corey Hart to an incentive laden deal would be a huge improvement over Morrison at 1B for 2014.

There's a lot of interest in him so he may land a decent sized one year contract somewhere.

They don't like giving out multi year contracts for the most part anyway. It would be nice to get a good, proven major league hitter to put behind Stanton in the lineup.
