Morrison has a .249 career batting average with a .764 OPS. Weeks has a .247 career batting average with a .768 OPS. Not sure why anyone thinks the Marlins will get anything good for Morrison.

At least LOMO's on base skills gives him a chance to figure things out and turn it around to become a decent player. Weeks offers nothing. Dietrich can do what Weeks does right now minus the SB's .

Right. Except for the fact that we already have Dobbs. I'm not trying to acquire Dobbs to improve our team. The idea behind the post was to see if there is anything of value that we could get for Morrison. Also if LOMO were to swing away at everything like Weeks does he would hit many more HR's. However you slice it we are better off with LOMO over Weeks.

Weeks might not be much better than Dietrich, but he has had some good seasons in the majors. You said that the only season Morrison was healthy that he hit some homers. Well, he is injury prone and he's still unproven despite his age.

With that team I'd spend a ton. Stanton and Cano in their prime? Maybe 30-35 mil? With the potential of the outfield to break out I would go all in, sky's the limit. 'Course it's easy when it's not my money.

 

Yelich LF, LoMo 1B, Cano 2B, Stanton RF, Salty C, Ozuna CF, Dietrich 3B, Hech SS

 

A bat like that could push them into the playoffs if Yelich & Ozuna basically do what they did last season. Would certainly be a fun experiment.

I honestly don't see a need to replace lomo unless some trade comes up that just fits. Honestly I think if healthy he could turn in a pretty good year and significantly increase his value. Right now that value is fairly low, and I do think he's a better player than we've seen. JMHO though. Don't think the Hermida comps are fair just yet (although I do understand them)

The problem I have with your argument is that you don't acknowledge LoMo hasn't been healthy, and when you do, you point to his health being a consistent problem.

 

LoMo had one knee injury that only carried on into last season because the Marlins forced him into the 2012 lineup way before he should have been on the field. He played hurt in '12 because they wanted him in the opening day lineup, then when they gave up on the year he had to have surgery again. I honestly believe LoMo's health problems are entirely because of the Marlins poor plan with him, not because he's a glass player.

 

This is LoMo's make or break year for sure, but as Rydawg said, he has shown he can hit over a full season when healthy. Believe it or not, he's only getting stronger and healthier. If he can produce then great, he'll be awesome trade bait next year after rebuilding his value. If he sucks, no big deal, it's not like he has much value right now anyway...

 

Off topic, but for this reason I hope the Marlins consider converting Kyle Jensen to first base this year. I mentioned this a few weeks ago, he is completely blocked in the OF and his bat is just about ML ready with some pop.

Yea, he was dealt for Escobar, who is a pretty good player. That suggests to me he probably had/has more value than you assume.

I'd trade Lomo for any one of these --- in this order.

Victor Roach - Raw College OF with power, missed time with a broken arm or wrist or whatever. Hit 25 HR or so in A ball.

Clint Coulter- Another HS Catcher with Pop, may become serviceable at defense but as an offensive C worth a flyer. (I'd Pair him with a ML ready MR)

Nick Delmonco- 3B but he may not be anything more than a Mark Ellis type I think. Who knows but we can use another 3B incase.

Orlando Arcia- SS without speed, but can play a decent SS. Maybe when the Hech Experiment is over or they are willing to move on he can step in.

 

All are in A ball i think, but all are decent prospects.

 

Heck, if we can get one or two of these, and Ariel Pena- we might have won this trade easily and still given the Brewers a fair deal. Pena I think was part of the K-Rod Deal before.

I agree with you. Anyone thinking that Morrison is going to fetch a can't miss prospect has to stay away from the crack pipe.

I'm over it to. I think they need an upgrade at 2B, 3B, 1B and LF before the 2013 season begins. I am happy with them adding Saltalamacchia, but that's just a starting point.
