March 31, 201412 yr So I guess spring training stats do matter to the Marlins then, but only for bench players. what?
April 1, 201412 yr To think, they non-tendered Webb just so they could give his salary to Carlos f***ing Marmol. Ri-god-damn-diculous. I still don't know what the deal was with Webb.
April 1, 201412 yr That didn't make sense to me, either, unless they saw something in an MRI they didn't like. Then again, the Orioles signed him and they found something wrong with Grant Balfour, so who knows?

April 2, 201412 yr Of all the things to take issue with, this one is pretty irrelevant. Ryan Webb is not very good so don't get why some posters miss him so much. I considering losing Qualls a bigger deal than losing Webb and losing Qualls wasn't really a big deal either.
April 2, 201412 yr Of all the things to take issue with, this one is pretty irrelevant. Irrelevant to what, except maybe a thread about Brian Bugo? Webb was an important part of the bullpen. How can you resist the attraction of a good mystery about a Marlin?

Webb was not that good. He like Dunn is a high WHIP reliever. Not hard to find. I personaly hated seeing him pitch.
April 2, 201412 yr The problem is more that the Marlins got rid of Webb because they didn't want to pay him and then turned around and decided to pay Carlos Marmol who is much worse than Webb is. That is worth getting upset over, I think.

April 2, 201412 yr Marmol isn't "much worse than Webb is." Marmol is also a guy that GM's can fall in love with if they see him throwing some strikes. He strikes a lot of guys out and has experience closing games which GM's value. You're more likely to get a decent prospect for Marmol as opposed to Webb who is who he is. I don't even like Marmol and honestly couldn't care less about any of these guys as they're all very replaceable, but the point is that Webb wasn't very good. It was surprising that they just DFA'd him instead of perhaps getting a prospect that was going to amount to nothing via trade. That's about all there is to be upset with in that regard.
April 2, 201412 yr I disagree. I think you are drastically overrating Marmol. He hasn't been a dependable closer for several seasons now and GMs know this. He also has had some major control problems think mitigate the strikeout rate. Marmol can average over 11 strikeouts per nine innings but Ryan Webb still has the superior K/BB ratio. GM's know this too.
April 2, 201412 yr It's more annoying that we didn't try to trade Webb and net something (anything) in return as teams clearly wanted him.
