March 31, 201412 yr Its alright guys, they both suck and neither one is now on the team! Ruggiano with his 0 for 40whatever last season will not be missed and Bogusevic's last two teams have been the Astros and Cubs! This is like arguing over which STD you'd rather have :mischief2

Ruggiano with his 0 for 40whatever last season will not be missed and Bogusevic's last two teams have been the Astros and Cubs! This is like arguing over which STD you'd rather have :mischief2 Ruggiano is going to be a valuable starter for the Cubs for a majority of this season... That ballpark is going to help him tremendously.
March 31, 201412 yr So what he had no value here! I guess you're fan of the Clap Also false. He was the perfect back up plan for our CF problem, and he is a MUCH better 4th OFer than Reed Johnson.
March 31, 201412 yr Should have traded for Zeke Devoss. OBP machine. Most hits are XBH. Think Power hitting version of Keys. That is who we should have asked for. No one on this site has heard of him. The scouts aren't high on him. Ruggs is a plus 1 war outfielder. We screwed up. We should have gotten him.
March 31, 201412 yr Olt? No way. I knew people would jump at my naming Olt as being available for Ruggiano...Why not? I will give you 3 reasons why Olt... 1. Kris Bryant 2. Christian Villanueva 3. Jeimer Candelario They are all higher rated prospects than Olt, all 3 are 3rd basemen Olt has struggled since he played Winter ball in 2012 and was beaned He is now that 25 y/o minor leaguer Christian Villanueva is the better defender of all 4 prospects with excellent power and is ML ready now Kris Bryant may be called up end of the season The Cubs therefore have no use for Olt
March 31, 201412 yr BTW Olt did make the Cub's 25 man roster but is behind Valbuena on their Depth Chart. Ruggiano is the Cubs opening day CF.
March 31, 201412 yr http://cubs.mlb.com/news/article/chc/richard-justice-now-healthy-mike-olt-optimistic-about-his-future?ymd=20140305&content_id=68751780&vkey=news_chc Please note when the Ruggiano trade went down, the Cubs would have given Olt away, but we got Bogusevic even though we didn't have any options at 3rd base at the time
March 31, 201412 yr The Marlins probably didn't believe Olt was the answer, and with good reason. I'm actually with Eddie on this, the Cubs have so much IF talent on the left side, between Villanueva, Bryant, Castro, and Baez... Olt would have been very expendable. He doesn't really have much value until he can show he can hit again, especially considering his age. Lucky for the Cubs, his spring was a positive sign. And again, most of us knew the Cubs got the better end of that deal when it happened. They got a starting CFer who should be very successful in Wrigley, I'm happy for him.

Ruggiano's bat is perfect for Wrigley, he was a gift from Hill/Jennings any way you look at it The Cubs will trade Olt eventually but if Olt's bat has come alive as it appears the price will never be as low as it was during the time of the Ruggiano /Bogusevic trade...I agree The Marlins probably thought Olt was washed-up but really what other options did we have and what would it have cost to check him out...and if Ruggiano was a dump trade what made more sense anyway, a 5th Outfielder or a 3rd baseman who less than 2 years before was the # 1 prospect in MLB, a position we had no one to cover on our ML roster, nor did we have anyone ready at the time?

He played up here in Daytona last year. I do think he's a lot more realistic than Mike Olt, who the Cubs are still high on.

You don't just get to choose who you get in a trade. The other team has a say. Why would the Cubs trade a guy they just got in a package for Garza for a 4th outfielder in Ruggiano. Not to mention he was never the #1 prospect in MLB. Never really close either.

I will never know but if the Cubs could have gotten anything for him at all he would have been gone! they have a problem with him now.... He can't throw right now because of a shoulder injury. He is their equivalent to Greg Dobbs. However his bat has come alive. He will be traded eventually , the Cubs are hoping his value comes up but he will not be a Cub for long...at the most until the end of this season.

March 31, 201412 yr Author I like the Johnson signing but barring Ruggiano's slump last year he was otherwise very productive and would make a great 4th outfielder with great defense.
March 31, 201412 yr Gotta love the people ripping the front office for the Ruggiano trade. Ruggiano stinks. He is a career .747 ops guy with a career .310 OBP. If he didn't get hot when it didn't matter that half year he was here in 2012 he wouldn't break .700 career OPS. Flat out is completely replaceable. We traded him because he was going to get a raise and he stinks. We took a flyer on a cheaper fourth outfielder type. It was still a good trade no matter what in that we cleared the 2 million from Ruggiano at a position where we have extreme depth. Please for the love of god stop overrating him. He has a 3.9 WAR his last 883 PA spanning 2011-2013. That is pretty solid for a season and a third of playing time. No one is over rating him, but for saving a mere $1.3 million (Ruggianos salary minus a club controlled player), that is a pointless salary dump versus the alternatives, extra win or two he would provide, and more importantly shielding Ozuna/Marisnick for at least half a season as no organization in baseball but the Marlins would consider them ready. It's pretty unarguable, he is missed right now. I can agree it's not impacting the bottom line much, but you're a bit over the top with the hate. This was a pretty bad deal for the Marlins. Good organizations don't give away the Ruggiano and Webbs of the world. Certainly not world beaters, but for a small market team they have to maximize value and they routinely do things like this. Bogusevic had nice platoon splits last year, but pretty unreasonable to think he would compare to Ruggiano. It's embarrassing he didn't make the team.

The organization clearly views him much differently, and considering how young he is I totally get it. There's no point to give up on a guy they just traded for not even 12 months ago.
March 31, 201412 yr Just read a quote from bogusevic on the Herald where he was quote as saying his not making the team was "somewhat surprising" I found that laughable.

To think, they non-tendered Webb just so they could give his salary to Carlos fucking Marmol. Ri-god-damn-diculous.

They traded a bonifide MLer for him, and if Reed Johnson doesn't dominate this spring he absolutely makes the team anyway.
