June 2, 201412 yr From Rotoworld: Marlins manager Mike Redmond plans to keep Derek Dietrich out of the lineup for a couple of days in order to "clear his head." Dietrich is tied for the National League lead at second base with seven errors and made a pair of defensive miscues on Sunday. "I've given him a couple days off earlier in the year just to kind of clear his head," said Redmond. "Sometimes it's like anything. It's like offense. You just need a couple days to clear your head and relax. A lot of times that works. I think it worked before. We gave him a couple days off and let him relax. He seemed to play much better after that. I'm hoping that's the key." Can we give Redmond a couple of days off to clear his head? Maybe he can manage much better after that?
June 2, 201412 yr Eh, that makes sense. He's swinging the bat OK [i know, he's hitting under .250, deal with it], but that glove work is definitely horrendous.
June 2, 201412 yr Author Derek Dietrich: Baserunning: +1.2 Offense: +4.2 Defense: -2.5 fWAR: +0.7 Adeiny Hechavarria: Baserunning: +0.1 Offense: -6.0 (!!!!!!) Defense: -1.0 fWAR: -0.1
June 2, 201412 yr Him and Dan Uggla are the worst defensive 2nd basemen in baseball. We should convert him OF or something because he has no clue on playing any infield positions....

Let's move him to the outfield. Who plays second? Lucas/Solano/Baker? OK, fine. Who is he taking over for in the outfield? Yelich? Nope. Ozuna? Please. I'm not even going to bring up our right fielder. Great idea, Lakeshow, what ya got next?

June 2, 201412 yr I think SongInTheAir makes an excellent point in that earlier post. Dietrich keeps getting singled out for some defensive miscues, but we're just gonna ignore that ball he got backing up 1st base to save the game a few games ago, the fact that he's hit a solid .773 OPS at 2B, and the fact that he's still 24 years old. It's amazing how many times Dietrich gets singled out when there are players on this team who avoid this crap. Adeiny especially gets a free pass every single time for being an absolute zero on offense. I understand wanting somebody to improve on defense, but offensive ability is a hell of a lot more important to a successful team and Adeiny has cost us more games with his sh*tty hitting than Dietrich has with his few defensive problems. I'm incredibly annoyed every time I see this story, since there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that whenever Furcal is healthy, he's going to take Dietrich's spot on the roster and Derek will be sent down to AAA. It's insane how this front office seems to have it out for Dietrich. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some of the Dietrich crap still stems from him calling out Martinez for the bullying tactics he did and got him fired. It was rumored that was what stopped Dietrich from being called up in September. I think Loria still has some sway in screwing Dietrich every now and then. Otherwise he should be starting every damn day for this team this year.

June 2, 201412 yr Whatever, guys. Starting Ed Lucas and his career .536 .OPS against right-handed pitching will give us a better chance to win, ok? This is just the smart move. Smart like Ed Lucas! Because did you know that Ed Lucas went to Dartmouth? I hope this all makes sense now.

I think using him against RHP with Lucas is the way to go. Also, maybe the FO will start Furcal at SS instead of 2B? Hard to imagine them replacing Dietrich/Lucas with how well they're hitting in a platoon.

They're absolutely in love with him despite him never consistently doing anything right on a baseball diamond.

When Furcal comes back, I fully expect Dietrich to be sent down. The reason given will be that he needs to work on his defense and play every day down there. As for the platoon, we've already seen that this organization isn't a big believer in such a thing.

I haven't been paying much attention but I thought they were, lol.

June 3, 201412 yr If Dietrich is temporarily benched, does that mean Benched is temporarily Dietrich?
