We might disagree on Hech but I won't disagree with you on Salty. I was optimistic with the signing in the off season mainly because our catching was horrendous last season. However, I think that Mathis defense might be worth more than the little bit more offense that Salty can give us.

 

With that said Salty doesn't swing at bad pitches like Stanton or Ozuna. He does walk enough. He misses good pitches which is what's puzzling. He either has little bat speed, needs glasses, or is swinging too big of a bat. Maybe he is still concussed?

His O-Swing Percentage is 31.7%, Z-Swing is 66.8%. Both are right around his career averages. Interestingly, his O-Contact (47%) is significantly lower than his career average (55%) so he's actually swinging at the same types of pitches he always has, he's just not making contact as often on things out of the zone. (Z-Contact is about equal to his career average, 76% now, 78% career)
