Disco will be a great relief pitcher and Wallach could become a pretty good player in the Great American Ballpark.

December 15, 201411 yr It's far to early to determine if trading PROSPECTS is a good deal or not. I agree that Gordon has an upside that can't be matched by anyone in the league if he can get on base at an above average clip. He also gets to a lot of balls that most others can't get to in the field. I'm o.k. with trading prospects for a high upside impact player that can contribute now. We gave up two average prospects and a possibly average Heaney (3rd in the rotation) for a once proven all-star with the possibility of many more. Remember this guy didn't start playing baseball till high school so he is still relatively new to the game. If Latos' arm is healthy and the reduced MPH over the last three seasons is not a negative sign of this then I'm o.k. with his trade also. If he sits in as a solid 2 he is exactly what we need. Wallach has a nice upside but is still at such a low level of baseball it is ridiculous to value his potential beyond decent prospect. When Fernandez is back we should all be excited about the Latos deal. I disagree with this. It's not too early to judge a deal involving prospects based on where the value they have on the market is now. For example, anything can happen with Heaney, but he is valued in baseball as an asset, and a top prospect, so no matter what happens, we can judge the trade based on his value in 2014 and Gordon's value in 2014. The results in coming seasons are independent of this. Also, Gordon doesn't have much upside, considering his lack of power and struggles to make contact. He'll be 27 soon, young but not that young. I think we should keep expectations reasonable. Personally I'm hoping he can keep the on base around .320 and possibly grow to .330 (He did get on base in the minors, after all, but never in the majors). Gordon does have defensive upside though. I do believe this part. Him and Adeiny both. This can be special in the middle infield defensively if they can click on the easy plays.

December 15, 201411 yr The Latos trade is a pretty clear win, since you weren't giving up the kind of talent you got rid of in the Gordon deal. I'm still amazed we paid that much for a middle infielder who isn't that good. Especially since part of the return was a pitcher that probably won't end up playing for us at all. I guess we can reevaluate this deal if Haren gets flipped for something, but I figure he might just retire and leave us with nothing.
