DolphinJohn
Well, some of those "lost" guys weren't traded but yeah, I think the Marlins got better. .
DolphinJohn
This guy thinks so too. ESPN's @jaysonst on #Marlins: "If Jose Fernandez makes any sort of impact in the second half, this is now a playoff team. Mark that down." This guy too. The #Marlins are one of 3 major league teams to get an A from @JimBowden_ESPN for their off-season work so far. .

EricOwens!
Still wouldn't say we're a playoff team with this infield. If Jose was healthy I'd say we are but we need to add another infield piece to be contenders. To answer your question we won the Latos trade and we lost the Gordon trade (current team is still improved from the Gordon trade though). tjelke
could you edit the post to show just the actual trades and not other transactions? That might make it easier.

JackRubysDog
Sorry, I meant it in a kind of "are we a better team with the players we've lost and the players we've gained since the end of the 2013 season" way but I know how you douche bags are about thread titles. I still say we won the Gordon trade. IMHO Heaney is a number one prospect in the same way Jeremy Hermida was a number one prospect. I just don't think he has ML balls, and I think the Marlins FO knew what they were doing (we may scorn them, but they got us no-names like Brian Morris and Jarrod Cosart last year and turned them into plus WAR heroes). We have Tyler Kolek, so we didn't need him any more. The rest of the rotation once Jose is back is freakishly young, aside from Haren and Latos is a rental. Gordon's stats are not good, but they ain't bad, and we've seen how Butler and co can improve Hech from garbage to horrible. Gordon on base will allow Yelich to draw more walks, with GS and another power bat and Ozuna to follow. Barnes was blocked by Realmuto. I can't say I'll miss Hatcher or Hernandez. Hernandez struck me as another Dallas McPherson. I want to hibernate until the start of next season,.
gizmo
Upgrade either 1B or 3B, and we'll talk about possibly being a playoff team. Still don't see it just yet.

"We have Kolek, so we don't need Heaney" doesn't add up. First of all, Kolek is at least three years away. Second of all, having one great asset doesn't Mean you don't need more great assets. The team got better but they lost that particular trade.

Jay Ram
I think the Marlins got better so far. Even though they lost the Gordon trade, I really like him as a player (Ideally he's an 8th hole hitter or super utility guy but here we are.) Ii think it's reasonably optimistic to hope he can be a slightly better Emilio Bonifacio. If that's the case, it's not a catastrophic trade, just a slight loss. We won the Latos trade. Even if it's a one year rental, you QO him after the year and get value. Really like the rule V pickup and Scott Sizemore pickup low key. If he's healthy he might actually be better than Garrett Jones *Sips tea*
Jay Ram
The good news about the Gordon trade that we need to mention? It probably means they don't extend Hech. Hey, it even means there is a long shot he becomes expendable after another shitty season, which is a sure thing.

SilverBullet
Despite what we gave up to LA, the major league team is better today than it was a week ago. With that said, we're not a true contender until we get that power bat. And if it's a really good one we are capable of catapulting to being serious contenders as opposed to the fringe type of contender we probably are now. They'll try and extend both Hech and Gordon and say "we've locked down our All Star Gold Glove middle infield tandem for years to come. You're welcome "

LOST DeSclafani Wallach Heaney Hatcher Hernandez Barnes Jennings Flynn Redman Lucas Brantley Canha Olmos Furcal Gregg Johnson Penny GAINED Latos Gordon Haren Rojas Rienzo Crow McKirahan who is redman? you cant really say how does this look in trades and half the players lost were from contracts expiring and waivers. comical nevermind, i answered my question, some minor league ham n egger
Das Texan
marlins did well in the latos trade. marlins got hosed in the heaney trade crow was shit last year, and was one of the worst relievers in baseball. the jennings trade was stupid because they traded a trash lefty for a trash righty. Undakai
You know, they both actually have really, really good tools defensively. Just make the routine fucking plays guys. This. I mean, look at the ranks: Among second baseman, here is his Inside Edge rank on made play percentage by bucket: Remote (0-10%) 4th, Unlikely (10%-40%) t-3rd, Even (40%-60%) 2nd, Likely (60-90%) 8th, Routine (90-100%) 20th. There are 20 second baseman on this list. My understanding is that Hech's numbers are actually fairly similar. Need these guys to make the routine plays, once they start doing that, they will be plus defenders imho. source: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-do-the-marlins-see-in-dee-gordon/
SilverBullet
The Jennings trade was made because Jennings was out of options so they swapped him for a guy with an option and they went ahead and got a lefty reliever from the Rule V draft. Jennings was fine but expendable and not flexible in terms of the roster.

While I agree, I don't think we get much more production from a Pedro Alvarez over Justin Bour. I think we could be a playoff team right now, even with Bour at first. Admin
All I know is I cant wait to see that high .200s/low .300s OBP and tons of strikeouts at the top of the lineup. Because of speed and stuff. My pants are getting tight just thinking about it.
