April 12, 201511 yr This probably means a lot more Salty. At least with Mathis, he had the great defensive reputation to earn him starts now and then. With Cilantro 2.0, he's an organizational fill talent (like his brother) and he'll probably only start day games after night games.
April 12, 201511 yr Look for Realmuto and Reid Brignac to get the call tomorrow #Marlins @zephyrsbaseball Per Frisario and also Clark Spencer. Looks like Realmuto will get the call now and more than likely Briganc comes in for Kelly.
April 12, 201511 yr They'll have to make a move to get Brignac on the 40 man, so who gets the boot off?
April 12, 201511 yr They'll have to make a move to get Brignac on the 40 man, so who gets the boot off? Mathis or Kelly could go on 60 day DL, would open a spot.
April 13, 201511 yr Mathis or Kelly could go on 60 day DL, would open a spot. Jose and Crow can also fly on the 60.
April 13, 201511 yr Jose to the 60? No, thanks. Back date it to the start of the season. Jose won't be ready in early June anyway.
April 13, 201511 yr But he'll be ready in mid-June. Right, so 60-day DL retroactive to March 27th, he can come off on May 26th, well before he'll be ready. It's just a procedural roster move that makes literally no difference to Jose or his progress.
April 13, 201511 yr Can we call up Realmuto? Hopefully he plays well and takes Salty's job. Looks like he's the one coming up. That being said, you know Redmond's is going to play Salty almost every game even if Realmuto goes 20 for his first 20.
April 13, 201511 yr Looks like he's the one coming up. That being said, you know Redmond's is going to play Salty almost every game even if Realmuto goes 20 for his first 20. I was actually thinking about this today and unless Salty goes on an absolute tear, which is of course unlikely, Realmuto may actually get more playing time than we think. Two reasons... the team is starving for offense right now, and they know very well that Realmuto needs all the at bats he can get. So you gotta think JT will at least get some early opportunities. I'd look for him to start at least one of the games in Atlanta. Of course, if he doesn't perform they'll default back to Salty but the thought isn't out of the question.
